“They’re all so tight together and it fits so well, and is clearly extremely rehearsed. It’s so polished and addicting, and the deeper register of Brendon’s voice takes over and when it hits the chorus, the three of them harmonizing is absolutely stunning”

It’s not just the music itself that’s great, it’s the lyrics too. “I stopped searching for the answers. They sang about cats, taught us to be ninjas, and asked us our favorite colors. They convinced us that unicorns were real, and came to join us to dance in the crowd. They got us all to do the hokey pokey and step out of our comfort zones
“”Four Simple Words” is his most famous tune, I’d say. It’s the song that got my friends and I into him in the first place. In that moment, when he sang the first words, the world faded around us. It was an automatic response to turn to the person next to you and begin a dance, no matter how small the space you were in.”
It shows concert footage that’s dark and gritty in the most punk rock way possible and then contrasts with the band messing around and being goofy. It’s the same quality that One Direction fangirls squee over and get googley-eyed for, only more hardcore, of course.
As for the chorus, the first time I heard it, I realised that this band was more than they appear and they’re meant to be taken seriously. “All they had to do was speak my name, to calm the lion, make him tame. Were you as wild as they say?”
“Their whole “half pop punk half anxiety” shtick is not only lighthearted but also a message that Soupy puts out through his heartfelt lyrics that he, too, struggles and isn’t afraid to admit it and ask for help, but also acknowledge his own faults.”
“First off, that’s been done a hundred times and knowing that Jon Simmons, the frontman, is so against ‘selling out’ and is, frankly, a bit full of himself for it, it’s pretty hypocritical. Also, it’s just plain and boring. Simple can be effective, but not in this case. “
“I really don’t understand how someone who was a fan of Moz couldn’t like this version. It’s beautiful and sounds like a song he would’ve written in the first place. His flawlessness takes a mediocre song by a mediocre man to a brilliant song sung by a legend.”

“She is, in more than one way, a true heroine. She’s so normal- she’s not supermodel thin, doesn’t cake on makeup and sometimes doesn’t wear any at all, and has crazy hair. She’s free spirited in a way that’s not artificial and stupid.”
“”Tripwire/Peace, Love, and Understanding”. I knew that he went from one to the other by reading setlists and hearing about it, but I had no idea how it would work. It was like the two songs were made for each other. It was an overwhelming sense of his true talent, with combining the old and the new, the classic and the contemporary.
“This performance in particular, the connection him and the bassist Chris make is stunning- the two share a name, and obviously a flawless sense of rhythm. “
“I remember playing a ‘Battle of the Bands’ in my hometown and there were maybe 400 people there and it was so loud- the screams were so loud when we were playing. It was the biggest rush ever. That was when I knew. I was like, ‘I could do this. Maybe all these people aren’t here for us, but one day they will be.’ “
“I’m not necessarily a part of it, but from what I could tell, there were so many people and they didn’t push or shove once the band was on, it was all just passionate adoration of the music. Also, the lack of judgement regardless of the wide span of people singing all the words was incredible to see; parents came to this show with their kids and they were both yelling along to the tunes.”
“So, when there’s a crowd of biker dads, preteen girls in Uggs, drunk housewives, and nerdy teen boys, the biker dads might “woo” and teen boys will stare while those girls in their most vulnerable age see you on stage saying things they’ve never heard before, wearing revealing clothing, and basically being a sex symbol.”
“The Golden God is much heavier than the Kerrang Award. The Kerrang Award, I can wield it drunk better. Q: “If I’m remembering correctly, for a while, you guys dropped the “!” and just went as “Panic At the Disco.” Why’d you go back to stylizing it as “Panic! At the Disco”?” A: “Honestly, we just printed it without the “!” one time, and people flipped out.
“The upper halves of their bodies were around the house, in the windows, playing to the woman inside, presumably a mother. Their hearts were closer to her. However, their legs were going around, pursuing a music career, or a bigger life outside of the mother. They’re half and half, caught between their mothers and their booming success.”
It’s a minute and twenty five seconds of pure energy, and I really hope they continue in this direction. The band is entirely unpredictable, and this step forward is something I believe will be an element in “Pax-Am Days”. It feels so natural for them and you can just tell that they’ve settled into a comfort zone
“They just kept sending more and more paperwork to sign. Like for one, it’s a charity for the state of New York so we’re giving you the money kind of anyway, and two, we desisted like, we ceased and desisted, like, nine months ago. No good deed goes unpunished.”
“I really appreciated how Pierre noticed all the people who were crowdsurfing and said to stop doing it, because there were people at the show who didn’t want to get kicked and that everyone should be able to see, without their view being obstructed by some obnoxious person trying to just get closer to the band. “
This album was recorded in just two days. The band is out of control and pumping out new things like a machine. And it’s not crap, either. November 29th, “Pax-Am Days” will come out as a digital release. October 15th, it’ll be a physical release bundled with “Save Rock and Roll”- FOB’s first double album
They’re all adorable and the video is pretty interesting. A relationship on the rocks ending in disappointment, but the uplifting sense of “who cares I still have my friends”. It’s nice. Also goes to show that their videos have improved artistically as well, because the lighting in it is so poor and it’s not very well done at all
The band had mentioned Jon Simmons doing less screamy/yelly vocals and heading more towards singing, which is very much evident in this tune. His voice seems better than before and this song is right in his range. The gravelly feel of some of the song is great and keeps the edge that the band uses to differentiate themselves from the rest.
The energy was intense, with Nate Ruess the frontman a ball of energy with his incredible range and undeniable smile- it’s always humbling to see. He sounds even better live than recorded, especially with the higher notes. On the recordings of their tunes, Ruess usually hits the highs with his head voice, but live, he sang it in full chest
Welcome Back SNL. I can honestly say I havent missed the show at all over the summer break. Yeah, Justin Timberlake and Kanye gave me a couple good moments but over all it was a pathetic hot mess. Void of comedic valud and seemingly draggin on forever, this hour and a half of my life would be better used sleeping.
More Than – Au Revoir Simone – This reminds me of all those indie pop bands with a touch more better living with electricity thrown into the mix. Sort of Pains of Being Pretty At Heart – B+
I am a fan of the tune, because it’s upbeat and stands out from his others and is an anthem of staying young. Not necessarily a tear-jerker, right? Wrong. The performance alone sent shivers down my spine and made me realise that Frank Turner is a way bigger deal than people know.
The problem is, there were some real heartaches and bad things that happened, and the director didn’t find a way to include them in this confection of a movie convincingly.
He has the ability to convey extreme emotions in a bleak and stark way, and it’s what makes the song so successful. The melody is unique and calming. “I haven’t been as strong as I had thought I’d be, but I think I’ve been stronger…”
The layering of the sounds makes it very Urban-Outfitters-chic, however, it’s even far superior to that. It’s a good tune to pop into an upcoming indie film or any stereotypical wannabe hipster’s playlist, and yet still caters to those with genuine music taste
I hope that the shock factor was worth it, because now I simply cannot respect her at all. The Hannah Montana days are long gone, and soon, Cyrus is going to hit bottom. I wonder if Amanda Bynes has a spare room for her…
I don’t have enough words to explain how much I utterly despise Bruno Mars.
I’m gonna go ahead and give the band some serious credit for being able to put on a good show, play their instruments in a technically sound and experienced way
