Balance and Composure "Reflection", Video Review

Balance and Composure

Balance and Composure is an absolutely incredible band that has endless potential.  They released an album recently, and one of the songs off of it, “Reflection”, is especially great.

The band had mentioned Jon Simmons doing less screamy/yelly vocals and heading more towards singing, which is very much evident in this tune.  His voice seems better than before and this song is right in his range.  The gravelly feel of some of the song is great and keeps the edge that the band uses to differentiate themselves from the rest.

The music video for this song is phenomenal.  First off, the cinematography is beautiful and the location is so scenic.  It has a religious feel, with the baptism and scene of a man walking down the aisle of a dark church.  The motif of the “ghost”, or person with a sheet over their head, is very much recurring in the video and alludes to the artwork of their latest album.  The scenes of the band performing are great, the colours and the lighting are brilliant and tie it in with the theme of the story of the video, instead of being like “hey look at the band they’re standing out”.  It all fits in cleanly and nicely, and is very well edited.

This song is a massive improvement from their previous album.  As much as I love all their earlier releases, there’s something special about their new stuff.  It feels more matured and stronger, because now they’re more seasoned and experienced and have learned more about themselves as musicians.  Their obvious progress and development makes them not only stand out more in their genre in a very positive way, but will also pave the way to make them serious headliners and make their name even bigger.
