As a relatively normal 16-year-old girl, there’s nothing that runs deeper than my jealousy of Lorde. Â She’s my age, has a record deal, hit songs, and isn’t a total loser. Â Impressive is an understatement, and wow is she good at what she does.
She’s a real girl, which I absolutely love. Â She’s not looking to be “sexy”, and doesn’t brag about anything dumb. Â Her immense success has been absolutely deserved; when I first heard “Royals” on the radio, I was stunned. Â First off, I was surprised I didn’t hate a tune that a girl sang. Â Secondly, I had no idea she was as old as I am- like holy crap. Â Typically teen musicians are supported by Disney Channel or something stupid, but she did this all on her own. Â That drive is absolutely mindblowing.
Her voice is gorgeous; she has genuine talent and it’s not like she got into the industry easily. Â She put up an EP on SoundCloud and from there created all those social media accounts- here’s where her popularity grew. Â She did it authentically and they way it should be done- no one was really paying her, it was just her passion pushing her forward.
I’m consistently impressed by her album, “Pure Heroine”. Â She is, in more than one way, a true heroine. Â She’s so normal- she’s not supermodel thin, doesn’t cake on makeup and sometimes doesn’t wear any at all, and has crazy hair. Â She’s freespirited in a way that’s not artificial and stupid. Â I adore her for this, and am really looking forward to watching her grow in her career.
