I couldn’t adore Title Fight more than I already do, but their music video for “Be A Toy” is simply pushing that seeming impossibility into reality. First off, the video itself is adorable and personal and intimate in ways that fans will love and inspire them to watch over and over again. The song is a unique entity all on its own- it’s unlike anything else the band has done and has a different sound that proves how TF is versatile and not a force to be reckoned with.
The video is shot in Super 8 mm film; as a photography nerd, this tickled my fancy. No one shoots music videos in film anymore, and if they do, it’s 35 mm. It’s all about ease, and TF never really were the simple type. It shows concert footage that’s dark and gritty in the most punk rock way possible and then contrasts with the band messing around and being goofy. It’s the same quality that One Direction fangirls squee over and get googley-eyed for, only more hardcore, of course.
The song is a masterpiece. Jamie, the vocalist, shows a less intense side and slides his way into the vocals, and they’re not quite the forefront of the sound. The composition is beautiful and even though you can still tell it’s clearly Title Fight, you can’t help but bat a lash at how they are trying something a little less familiar. Being used to the hard, intense sound that’s vocally driven and loud, it came as a bit of a shock, but a wonderful one, nonetheless.
This band is a group of geniuses, constantly keeping us on our toes and getting better every step of the way.
