Seahaven is one of my favorite bands. Â I’m always listening to them and Kyle’s addictive vocal style makes them incredibly unique and distinctive. Â They haven’t released anything recently, until today. Â “Silhouette (Latin Skin)” is a slower and careful ballad that was released on Run For Cover’s sound cloud. Â It’s the first single off their upcoming album- “Reverie Lagoon: Music For Escapism Only”. Â It already sounds promising.
The tune is slow and timid and laid back. Â Kyle’s tender drawl takes the limelight and never falters. Â It’s 6 minutes of sheer perfection. Â I had totally expected something along the lines of their last album, “Winter Forever”, deep and powerfully strong through chord progressions and intense undertones. Â This is much more calm than I imagined, and it’s fantastic.
Now, we’ve heard the band pour their heart out in slow tunes like “Honeybee”, but never before like this. Â Even the guitars sound sad. Â The violin mixed in creates a swirling sound of encompassing warmth, like a hug. Â It’s gentle and feels like you’re being rocked and held. Â It’s just so beautiful, how soft and delicate it is. Â It shows a side of the group we’ve never fully been able to grasp until now.
It slowly builds and builds until there is a swell of the instruments and it has that Bon Iver gracefulness that is so hard to achieve; it’s strong and grounded and yet still velvety and heart melting. Â It’s so well done and shows musical caliber that even I didn’t know they were capable of.
Their album comes out on January 21st, and I can’t wait. Â This song is just perfect enough to hold me until then.
