Milky Edwards & The Chamberlings "Starman" & "Moonage Daydream" Reviewed

WHAT THE HELL!!!  There is nothing more intriguiing than a good hoax.  Milky Edwards never existed.  This album doesnt exist but some amazing nerds with a recording device have put together a couple tunes and  a back story to die for. The best part about this… It’s awesome!

A cross between Tom Jones and The Drifters this Motown inspired silliness is simplistic fun.  I love remakes of songs done in different genres- which may be the reason I love that silly “Punk Goes…” series.

“Moonage Daydream” takes on a ‘Cant Hurry Love” tempo with some serious brass backign it up.  This has to be one of the most interesting covers of a Bowie tune.    “Starman” doesnt take the change over as well.  Vocally it just sounds a bit more loungey.  Think Bill Murray meets Otis Day and The Nights.

This is so legit that the prim and proper David Bowie Facebook page (wonder if Bowie has even seen it?) offered up a statement on the tunes.  “Sadly, the evidence points to this actually being a modern day hoax and that Milky Edwards & The Chamberlings never really existed.”

So will this album ever really come to light?  You wont find it anywhere now and the only evidence of its existance are these Youtube videos. According to those in the know its an  11-track LP called Starman that features Motown renditions of every song from David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

I dig Milky- but who the hell is it?
