Does Kanye West Really Like His Carpet Ironed?

Iron Man Meets Yeezus

Why writing about Kanye West when the guy receives so much coverage already? Sure, but when I read something like this, I can’t pass on it! This week, the rapper made an appearance on ‘Later… with Jools Holland’ to perform his ‘New Slaves’ tune among others, but this is not the shocking part of course. Being overseas, he also did an interview with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe and screamed that his album ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ could be considered perfect and that he was the ‘number one rock star on the planet’, and this is getting soooo old. But, none of this is interesting enough for a post.

Let’s go back to that Jools Holland show, or rather what happened backstage… According to several tabloids (the Sun, Radar online,…), the diva rapper asked for the unbelievable, beating Maria Carey’s craziest demands: he asked for the walls of his dressing room to be all white with white curtains and white flowers, and he asked for the carpet to be ironed! What? He supposedly even went to the length to ask for his set to be demolished and rebuilt only for his appearance, and this is without saying that his large entourage took more than half of the 15 dressing rooms allocated for performers.

However, a source close to ‘Later… with Jools Holland’ denied the whole thing, saying that ‘Kanye was great to work with’ and that there were just ‘more flowers in the dressing room than usual’. So are these outrageous demands true? Even GQ and MTV report about the story, okay MTV keeps the question mark, but at the end, it doesn’t matter. When I first read about the ironed carpets, I found it outrageous but sadly believable. And this is what matters, Kanye West has built such a diva image, and continues to inflate his ego in front of our eyes to such a dramatic level that even something so freaking ridiculous doesn’t seem out of reach.
