When you’re a pop punk fan, there comes a point where you reach your quota of bands in the genre you listen to because there are so many crappy ones that are lame amateurs not worth your time.  That being said, Man Overboard is too overrated and local pop punk bands are typically crap.  I usually stick to The Wonder Years and Real Friends, but after hearing so much about the band Fireworks, I decided to give them a try.

The five piece group from Michigan can write a mean jam and get you hooked within five seconds.  I clicked on “The Wild Bunch” and was sucked in.  There’s something about the vocalist that really draws my attention.  It has a certain quality to it where it’s on the higher side and that’s attractive and goes along with the quality musicianship of the drummer in particular.  The guitars are tight and clean, which leaves wiggle room for David, the singer, to really experiment and it totally works out.

It’s not just the music itself that’s great, it’s the lyrics too.  “I stopped searching for the answers.  I’ve learned my lesson ’cause time is just a rhetorical question and I came out with a bang,” is just so well written.  The group vocals on “We all grew up weird enough,” is quick but still gives the perfect pop punk feel that you crave when listening to the genre.  It’s great and poignant and catchy, a wonderful anthem that I’m sure is a massive crowd pleaser when played live.

I’ve found another pop punk band to love.  Heck yeah.
