Thematically Isaak is all about hummable heartbreak. Women love the guy. He’s witty and charming enough to be a stand up comic, but also knows how to play the seduction card. When the band hit the opening chords of “Wicked Game,” it felt like the room was hit by an estrogen thunderstorm.

Alyson Camus wasn’t thrilled by Arcade Fire when she saw them earlier this year but she was a bigger fan than I ever was, and I also don’t believe she loved Reflektor as much as I did. My only problem with the album was it didn’t sell enough copies, and sales effects my opinion of pop music, but as albums go? It is a masterful and lush disco variant. And I can’t wait to see it live at Barclay Center on Saturday.

The Way I Am – Ingrid Michaelson – I’m not a big fan but Taylor swift is (she was seen dancing in the wings of Ingrid’s Summerstage gig earlier this year and so did Caroline Kole who covered this 2007 hit to great effect at the Bitter End. It is a very sweet, very catchy track – B+
On “Mama’s Broken Heart” she attacks the hootenanny of a song with gusto and joy and on the very next song “Money To Me” she rocks the chorus with conviction. She can sing speak, she can shout, she can whisper, she can suggest intimacy with a guy and go down low and when she needs to she can belt it out.
Their rhymes made me smile and they were really the nicest people around, as Evidence told he wanted to meet and talk to everybody after the show despite the fact they had another show (their album release party) at the Whisky the same day. Why Hip Hop can’t be more about these thoughtful and well crafted songs instead of the commercial violent trash that has become the norm

If you’ve never seen Iggy this isn’t a bad place to start. I saw fun. at T5 a couple of years ago as they just broke pop and man was the buzz around the show intoxicating. After awhile, a band gets used to the big bang of people knowing all the words to all your songs and ceases to be this amazing moment in time

The whole set was an adrenaline-charged bullet sent to the face of the Echoplex crowd, which was cheering up in response, even more when Little appropriately dedicated a song to the great Robin Williams who sadly died the same day. She has already received terrific comparisons, such as Debbie Harry, because of her sexy rebellious blondness and or Joan Jett, because of her punk energy, so this has to be an excellent boost for the young band.
I’ve been kinda impressed by the Top Ten Singles in the US, nothing here is an insult to my ears, and significantly,most of it is top drawed modern pop music; there is so much to admire here. Plus, Ariana, Charli XCX and Iggy all are stars shining bright right now, and they all have hits and they all overlap!
what the hell are the Vamps doing here? Did I miss that meeting? I am telling you, it is a golden age for Boy Bands. The lead song on the EP, with Demi Lovato, is a real winner. The Vamps are to the Wanted what 5SOS is to 1D only they are a little better than the Wanted, and 5sos are not as good as 1D. So who will be th last band standing???
The odd thing about rap is that if you strip it down to just the vocals, the skills are consistence right across from Iggy Azealea to Wu tang to these guys who add echo and have heavy effects laden tracks but whose rapping carries em to the finish line – B+
I was fed up doing pictures of Yes for the N.M.E. I loathed the music, the pretencious capes,platform shoes, billowing hair, and keyboards in the round. Along came this kickass, not heavy on musical talent, London foursome- The Sex Pistols,scamming me for cigs and beer,causing utter chaos wherever they played, and providing my cameras with exciting pictures.
Big rock stars are a bit like aliens, you rarely see them, they travel inside big black vehicles, and you work very hard at getting close to them. But when you get there, it seems surreal. I had a summer of encounters with rock stars, whatever the level of the encounters (and they were all at least of the third kind) they left the biggest impression of the summer on me
