An Imprecatory Psalm socking it to the Native Americans worst enemy and greatest revenge, as sung by one Johnny Cash back in 1965. This version, off an upcoming Johnny cash tribute album, sports a typical Earle rasping vocal but is no worse for it as he delights over “The General he don’t ride well anymore” – B+

First Smokey Has Friends, Now Streisand Has Partners!New Album Dropping In September

Let’s pass on the repulsive kiss the throat comment (I mean let’s pass on it now) and let’s assume Presley didn’t make it to the studio (plus: getting permission from Sony for anything Presley related is a bitch, so it probably helps that she records for columbia) , some of this sounds like it might be of interest. Stevie and Babyface to name but two.

Alyson Camus wasn’t thrilled by Arcade Fire when she saw them earlier this year but she was a bigger fan than I ever was, and I also don’t believe she loved Reflektor as much as I did. My only problem with the album was it didn’t sell enough copies, and sales effects my opinion of pop music, but as albums go? It is a masterful and lush disco variant. And I can’t wait to see it live at Barclay Center on Saturday.

Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases w-o 8-18-14

I am working up to a full Smokey Robinson review (sneak peek: I like it), but I am giving the honor to Dr. John because any time you’re recording an album of songs made famous by one Louis Armstrong is the time you have the album of the week. The Cash album? I’ve only heard two tracks but the Steve Earle one is killer. Midge Ure????

Diamond Rings And Old Barstools – Tim McGraw -I never claimed McGraw had no voice, I claimed he had no personality. And he has no personality. He also has lousy taste in songs. But this duet with his cousin Catherine Mann is more than a generic ballad, it is a lovely song with a smart metaphor – B+

Suicide Solution And Gene Simmons

In the US around 12.6 million people have cancer and 15 million people suffer from depression. This suggests depression is less a mental illness and more a social malaise. I mean, when one in every 3400 people suffer from depression, that goes beyond brain triggers and into the realm of a society malfunctioning

Morrissey Not Dropped By Harvest

“Farther down the chart, Morrissey’s World Peace is None of Your Business sold an estimated 13,500 to place him somewhere between 18 and 20.” In a nation of 300 Million people it appears to clear the golden age of Moz is not upon us. On Spotify, the title track has been streamed 500K times and “Istanbul” 400K times ergo, in dollars and sense, some $3,000 worth.

"The Giver" Reviewed

Taylor Swift plays Rosemary who is only in the movie for like 300 seconds tops so who cares, though she has brunette hair and really, I saw Taylor on the increasingly dreary “The Tonight Show” the other day and will somebody please feed the damn girl. Cmon, Taylor, you are too cool to worry about how much you weigh.

Off the newly extended That’s The Way It Is, this rehearsal take is a masterful form of verbal gymnastics which Presley did, and this is why his outtakes are so awesome, he is relaxed and flexible and his phrasing is the stuff of gods… during a rehearsal 40 odd years ago – A

FKA Twigs Playing Terminal 5

Does FKAT sound like Sade or what? Maybe sounds is too strong a word, have a similar minimalist vibe. I wrote Tricky but it is more like Sade fronting Massive Attack, which might explain why she can be so out there and yet sound so pop.

The Way I Am – Ingrid Michaelson – I’m not a big fan but Taylor swift is (she was seen dancing in the wings of Ingrid’s Summerstage gig earlier this year and so did Caroline Kole who covered this 2007 hit to great effect at the Bitter End. It is a very sweet, very catchy track – B+

Their rhymes made me smile and they were really the nicest people around, as Evidence told he wanted to meet and talk to everybody after the show despite the fact they had another show (their album release party) at the Whisky the same day. Why Hip Hop can’t be more about these thoughtful and well crafted songs instead of the commercial violent trash that has become the norm

If you’ve never seen Iggy this isn’t a bad place to start. I saw fun. at T5 a couple of years ago as they just broke pop and man was the buzz around the show intoxicating. Queen Caveat At The Echoplex, Monday August 11th 2014

The whole set was an adrenaline-charged bullet sent to the face of the Echoplex crowd, which was cheering up in response, even more when Little appropriately dedicated a song to the great Robin Williams who sadly died the same day. She has already received terrific comparisons, such as Debbie Harry, because of her sexy rebellious blondness and or Joan Jett, because of her punk energy, so this has to be an excellent boost for the young band.

I was fed up doing pictures of Yes for the N.M.E. I loathed the music, the pretencious capes, platform shoes, billowing hair, and keyboards in the round. Along came this kickass, not heavy on musical talent, London foursome- The Sex Pistols, scamming me for cigs and beer, causing utter chaos wherever they played, and providing my cameras with exciting pictures.
