If there is a better idea than this somewhere or the other, I haven’t heart it. A source told the Sun (a UK Tabloid) “Sam is our top choice. He has the profile, cool image and astonishing voice to record a Bond theme. And there is only so long we can hold out for Adele. Daniel Craig was pushing for her because she did such a great job last time around.”
I thought Adele’s “Skyfall” wasn’t that much compared to, say, “Thunderball” but I didn’t think “Skyfall” the movie was much compared to “Thunderball”. Still, if your competition is Jack White you will undoubtedly be getting a lotta people saying they’ll wait till she is ready to record a new song. Oh, and isn’t it time for a new Bond? “Casino Royal” was magical. The other two weren’t that’s for sure. Let’s have a reboot guys.
But whoever the new James Bond ends up being, the new James Bond song will be that much better with Sam Smith, the 22 year old UK wunderkind, singing it. Smith will bring something you wish the movies had again, both deftness and depth. Youth, a sureness of touch, an emotional extremism, an intelligence. All the stuff the overwrought Greek tragedy that is Adele (and Bond in 2012) isn’t,
The reason “Guardians Of The Galaxy” is so popular is because it hasn’t the leaden weight and seriousness of Spiderman, Ironman, The Avengers, Captain America -all of them have acquired over the years. I don’t have high hopes till we are rid of James Batman Bon aka Daniel, but maybe a new generation will save us.
Meanwhile, let’s hope Smith gets the gig.
