Rihanna To Play Whitney In Movie
Vivica Fox, Megan Good, Jordin Sparks and Dreamgirl Jennifer Hudson are also considered for the role, and since Hudson already sang a Houston’s song at the Grammys, she may have the lead.

It runs its course with a terrific set piece in a PR nightclub, a good freak out on acid (“We’ve got to get more” mutters Depp -who, by the way, sounds a lot like Popeye) and the chick is a little knockout. But as daydreams go, this one ain’t that hot.
Over the years I’ve seen Lady Antebellum, Carlene Carter, Ian McLagan, Bob Mould… many others. Always a great experience, always must see people. But since they’ve come back from hiatus I’ve been precisely once.
Dreaming of New England? Country gal from the East Coast goes in search of the perfect guy and finds a modern day John Travelota who looks just like Keith richards or something. Pretty smart song.
And not just because they are featured in rock nyc’s perpetually in post-production commercial, or even because Helen thinks Michelle Montevan is the nicest person, but because they fucking rock like Gods.
Their fast and abrasive garage-rock with a lot of reverb in the shouted vocals sounded nostalgic with some 60s surfing guitar lines.
Abraham Lincoln: “attended many concerts and was fond of the Rumsey and Newcomb Minstrels and the Newhall Family singing troupe. He loved the tune “Old Hundred” and “The Lament of the Irish Emigrant.” He also was fond of “Dixie” and loved it even after the war.”
“The idea is to try to put a container on something that at least espouses a desire to throw off any container, and may not be containable,” says Krugman, whose career has included managing the New York punk band the Dictators in the early ’70s
A rock tune stripped down acoustic. Although, I do feel he sounds alot like Tracy Chapman in the ‘Fast Cars’ era, I can not dispute that this man has a great voice. I think its the interpretation and pauses in the lyric that take a rather overdone tune and totally revamp it.
Shallowness, and sentimentalism should be avoided in art,… ‘Emotion resulting from a work of art is only of value when it is not obtained by sentimental blackmail’ said Jean Cocteau, and Adele’s songs are exactly that, sentimental blackmail.
It has that 80’s sort of thump, which could be why I appreciate it. A touch of nostalgia is never a bad thing. A female vocal must always be distinct and run a very fine line between tough and trash, girly and saccharine. This song is just that and it really is well done
As we baby-boomers look back on our own lives, we must often feel an occasional ‘what-if’ moment. Might we, like Gerald, have become instead preacher, soldier, down-and-out, shopkeeper or finance tycoon?”
The 60s will never die, I am sure of this since I cannot write about an indie band without mentioning this omnipresent decade
a depressing identity crises which sounds like a moped being driven over puppies and which just won the sureeally out of it Oscars award for best original song in a movie for 2012. Best song??? Bret McKenzie’s “Man Or Muppet” was a showstopper alright. It stopped the movie dead in its tracks and it never recovered from it.
Craig Finn is a musical Phil Silvers. I was a huge fan of the terrific commedian and if you have ever seen Phil as Sgt Bilko, you’ll note how when the men in the platoon catch him in a con, he turns do them and speaks out of the side of his mouth.
I had a better chance of a getting a ticket to Kraftwek, whose Museum Of Modern Art concerts had 1.5 tickets available for every 100 callers. Or, in plain English, I had about as good a chance of spending the night with Scarlett Johanssen as Fiona Apple
Everything i’ve heard off the new Estelle is first rate and the new Regina places her firmly at the top of the heap, again. She may never be cute and quirky again, but the slightness of her depth is a wonder…
There appears to be a world of indie folk bands hovering in the netherlands of the public consciousness. They sell out a night at MHOW while I’m trying to figure out who they hell they are. White hinterland are one of the many and I like em fine, this is a beautiful mood piece and worth a listen. From 2010 so they should be back round soon.
Again we get to look backward at a band who made a huge impact on the ‘alternative music’ world. This is no masterpiece, this is stripped down JD from the “Unknown Pleasure” days. Its like a hug from an old friend.
Their screamer was absolutely mind blowing. His voice was so perfect and there wasn’t a single scream that came out of him that I wasn’t impressed with. His variety of screams made it all the better. As for the singer, he was equally flawless.
David Attenborough, who sounded like he’d just been hijacked off one of the old Disney TV shows nature specials, An early “Crystalline” gets a good hand and the video of worms are kinda cute. Bjork says “thank you” after each song twirping like a bird being fed a worm. And the set rolls along well oiled and running like clock work, but a little mechanical rather than natural
As this pool becomes more and more crowded, it is more and more difficult to differentiate them, but the Fresh & Onlys could lean more toward the folk side of this category, something obvious if you listen to them on record, but something far less obvious if you see them live:
Over 250,000 sweat soaked dance fans overtook Sin City and now its Gotham’s turn. In partnership with EDC organizer Insomniac Events, and Pacha New York, are promising a party of epic proportion
Children are like farts, they are all nasty, smelly things except for your own. To quote Don Corleone, it doesn’t matter to me how somebody makes money as long as I don’t have to watch em for half an hour. Or something like that,
The experience taught him many things; first he discovered how playing music can be ecstatic. If listening to music can enhance your mood or be comforting (he called the iPod a self-medication for our generation), playing live is a totally different experience, a higher level of wonderfulness and a total thrill.
Their music actually sounded quite simple to figure out on stage with all this funny business going on, but their garage-rock with shouted vocals is more difficult to describe on paper, as it was multi-influenced, often producing buoyant melodies with distorted riffs or even surfing guitars
This weeks musical guest on Saturday Night Live is none other than Jack White. This has great potential and I’m hopeful it will live up to my expectation. With host Lindsey Lohan we can only hope the writers show no mercy and make this the best episode of the season.
Last time I saw Van Halen was in 2007, at MSG as well, and they sucked. This time eound they’ve got a really good album to push and that means more than the usual “Panama” plus… so who knows right? Sold out, so if you’re not doing anything Wednesday try out Saint Motel at Mercury Lounge. And if you do have a tix, crack it early for Kool And The Gang
Lead off song “Following” just made my best of 2012 list and while the rest of this 80s style disco album by a coupla DJs isn’t as good, it is plenty good enough. The second song, “The Right One” takes off from that perfect pre-teen Vampire movie “Let The Right One In” and, amazingly, does it justice. The album sags a little after, but never too far. Grade: B+
Six Grammys later, the surprise is that there is any one left in England who doesn’t own the blasted record
The first singles chart in years continues to be staggerringly bad. Gottye is the most boring fellow on the charts, a drear makle Adele who I am sure will be very big with the modern equivalent Adult Oriented Rock.
Off the Vespertine Live album, but much much better Saturday night, where a devastating vocal made it the one to beat. Bjork seems to sound better the starker she gets. She overestimates what she is getting from technology
If that was the only problem with Sinead’s set at Highline Ballroom Friday night, the final night of a two coast four night mini-tour in support of her excellent new album How About I Be Me (And You Be You), I’d take a little Tourette’s Syndrime in return for the honor of her singing… it wasn’t.
Between his kind-of-strange and agitated songs, Kasher was drinking tea and talking to the audience, doing an improvised Q&A in the middle of the set, talking about preferring not wearing pants, embarking on some funny rants about very old times and a great movie with pant-less characters,
The ad is to promote the health benefits of the dairy beverage and guess who the UK has just chosen as its new poster girl? Kelly Osborne. Honestly who could think of a better representation of health and clean living?
What wouild I have done to my corpse? I don’t give a toss what’s done to it. Gang rape it, draw a moustache on it, throw it out with the garbage. Show it as much respect as you would a steak dinner. Eat it. All the same to me
If their music has been sometimes qualified of shoegazing, they were nevertheless showing a lot of dynamism on stage, constantly moving toward and against each others, almost reenacting a drunken dream going slowly.
So a spring anything seems odd. What is more odd is that Glamour Kills has offered up a really really good freebie. Figure if you’re going to spend $70.00 on a hoodie with a flying pig some free tunes would be a nice gesture.
There’s been a lot of hype over Katy Perry’s recently released single “Part of Me”. The song is part of the deluxe reissue of Perry’s album Teenage Dream which did fairly well; in fact it’s sold an estimated 5.5 million copies worldwide.
I respectfully recommend some Seger healin’ for you, Ms. Bach, and maybe you will surprise yourself and will be hummin’ a song from 1962 next time you awaken to thunder (or maybe not) but take that chip off your shoulder for a little while and give a listen
Each of the bands are from the Midwest, thus the tour name. Each of the bands peaked 35 years ago..thus the sarcasm. Not a big fan of Mr Wango Tango, he went slightly mad with the whole hunting thing. OK OK it’s your hobby get on with it freak.
$500 for these guys to play? I tell you what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna pay em the bucks and have em serenade me in the office!!! They can be like Cyndi Lauper in the that Lotterry commercial. How cool would that be? Like a pocketsize Fleetwood Mac!!!!
honestly, a lot of ‘small’ local bands (Lady Danville, Shadow Shadow Shade, The Belle Brigade, The Fling, Vanaprasta and others) are too good to be only paid 500 bucks.
he had the entire room moving and grooving for his entire set. “Who is this guy? He rocks!!!” was a common phrase out of concert-goers mouths after his set.
The Gorillaz are a band I want to love. They invite Clash members, Andre 3000, James Murphy, hell all the cool folk. Yet everything they do- with anyone they do it….sounds exactly the same.
I would have been really anxious with this guy on the loose and his closet full of knives! Remember, John Lennon was killed by a stalker, John Hinckley shot president Ronald Reagan to impress Jodie Foster he was obsessing about, Michael Jackson had numerous stalkers who sent him hundreds of letters threatening to commit mass murders at his concerts
I’m excited to announce that www.rocknycliveandrecorded.com will be speaking with the band this Saturday February 25, when they open for Attack! Attack! in Danbury CT. Someone should really rename this the exclamation mark tour.
Why journalists aren’t confronting Mustaine with all this? Why do they let him think he can say anything he wants without even being challenged? And why do they ask him his opinion about things like these? Please, stick to the music!
M. Ward and Justin Vernon look as bland as a Republican candidate and a former hippie going to a job interview, and have all the animation of, er, something that is inanimate.
Crowe will be portraying Inspector Javert in the latest version of the Victor Hugo classic. Who cares, right? There has been a million adaptations of this thing- it’s as if we have all lived it already. This film has an somewhat interesting twist though- it’s music
