rock nyc Wild In The Streets, Rebellion Lives

There is a lot to be said about the youth of today.  Gathering up three of our writers and the topics can fly around rather fast.

Such was the case this past week when I had the opportunity to hang out with the Layna Cloud, Henry Sins and Mary Magpie.  Three completely different personalities that add depth to our site and offer us something most other blogs don’t have.. a diverse and optimistic future.

When the topic gets off of Skins and off of books (John Dies At The End, is apparently a must read ‘or else) and off the film Fight Club it turns to music.

What about it?

A lot.

I wouldn’t call this group obsessed with music but I would say that they each have a soundtrack to their lives.  Sharing stories and sounds it can be an enlightening experience.  Take the time that Layna and Henry decided to skip out of school to get to a local club to be the first in to see Breathe Carolina (seriously guys what up with that obsession) got caught and got hauled back to school (fail), or the even better story of the stalkings.

Plural.

See these two use their teenage teflon to do things that adults would end up in the clink for.  Take the time they opted to hide out in a hotel to get to Lil Wayne (Layna screams ‘I WAS FIVE FUCKING FEET FROM THAT MAN!”) to the sad ending to the We The Kings adventure.  WTK were doing a signing at the local Hot Topic store- meet them if you buy their merch.  Having no money they opted to stalk the parking lot for the chance to high five the band, yet were snubbed.  Are they fans of We the Kings now?  Nope and Travis has lost credibility with his prima donna behavior.  Speaking of We The Kings, were the heck is their career now?  Proof its best to take five to meet the kids who ultimately sign your paycheck.

So maybe I was wrong on my earlier rant regarding what you would do for rock and roll.  Maybe its my mature age that makes me think these type of things don't still happen.  Yes, we can buy time with our heroes but if your 17 without a job or  cash, you do it old school style.  That free rebellion spirit offering many laughs on the idiotic schemes that either failed or paid off.

Waiting outside a club for a band to leave and having your first encounter with them a drunken sweaty mess could be the best time of your life.  It was great to see that spirit alive and well.

Though not everyone is worth the risk, Henry would break some laws to meet up with Versa Emerge or Fun. , Layna?  Silly girl would still stalk Breathe Carolina but threw in Drake as well, and Magpie?  Connor Oberst and Ed Sheeran  are worthy of illegal antics.

Henry and Layna head off to college soon both accepted to some prime Universities.  From those new locations rock nyc will get more diversity and may even need to establish a bail fund for when they finally do get busted.  Until then, its nice to know kids still run wild in the streets.
