Just another Katy Perry Song, "Part of Me", Reviewed

There’s been a lot of hype over Katy Perry’s recently released single “Part of Me”. The song is part of the deluxe reissue of Perry’s album Teenage Dream which did fairly well; in fact it’s sold an estimated 5.5 million copies worldwide. Several of the singles off that album even, unfortunately, spent long periods of time atop the Billboard top 100 list.

But I suppose that wasn’t successful enough for Perry, because now she’s rereleasing Teenage Dream under the title Teenage Dream:the Complete Confection, the first single from it being “Part of Me”.

If you’ve heard one of Katy Perry’s latest songs, you’ve really heard them all. “Part of Me” is another glittery club song with monotonous tone and less-than-spectacular lyrics. The lyric “This is the partof me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me” repeats through the chorus and, in addition to the repetitive musical accompaniment, makes the whole chorus sound redundant.

Katy Perry does actually have a voice capable of making every song of hers absolutely beautiful, but she doesn’t show that voice off in this song. Some parts of the verses even reek suspiciously of autotune.

It’s almost disappointing to see the “hits” that Katy Perry is pumping out nowadays. Her first album, One of the Boys, was, in my opinion, fairly decent. The song “Thinking of You” is still a fantastic song in my mind. It just seems that Katy should stop fueling the raging, monotonous, club mixed, fire that is today’s pop music.
