Muppet lovers everywhere were baffled by Jason Segal's dour reboot of the franchise last year, a nasty, very strange story of a muppet who thinks he's human and finally realize what he is, a stuffed puppet and joins the reformed gang.
From the bitter romance between Kermit and Piggy, to the dusty worn out theatre, to the down on their luck Muppets across the country working in run down clubs or becoming real estate agents, this godawful piece of sustained misery did no business once word got out that Segal had missed the spirit of the original begining, middle and end.
Never worse than on the creepier then creepy "Man Or Muppet" -a depressing identity crises which sounds like a moped being driven over puppies and which just won the sureeally out of it Oscars award for best original song in a movie for 2012. Best song??? Bret McKenzie's "Man Or Muppet" was a showstopper alright. It stopped the movie dead in its tracks and it never recovered from it.
The Oscars have reached new level of incompetence. The Academy should be fire.
