Last year, in a hard piched battle of crappiest rooms in nyc, Roseland beat out T5 after the unseeable Beyonce concert. But in 2012, he tables have turned!
Perhaps it is only during the Bjork residency and then gone, but with its in the round stage and surrounding horse hoe shaped balconies as well as a long bench going from one end of the room to the other, suddenly Roseland was a music fans delight.
I'm guessing they are gonna tear it down once Biophilia moves on but I hope they have learnt that is possible for the old place (Armstrong used to play there) to give us a, if not enjoyable, at least watchable experience.
Concert Halls are an experience in ritual humiliation, with paying customers herded like cattle, branded like refugees in a camp, and treated like people of interest in the kidnapping of a six year old girl from the Bronx. If you can actually see something it helps a whole hell of a lot and if the place is sparkling, clean and easy to access it helps even more.
By the way, what a waste of space the basement is.
Anyway, as we speak, Roseland isn't the worst place on Earth.
