Marina And The Diamonds "Homewrecker" Reviewed

I wasn't a fan of Marina's last offering but I think I may dig the next round. Her new lp 'Electra Heart', which is due out on April 30, with a single 'Primadonna' is set to be released  April 16.

Yet what is this "Homewrecker", a legit leak from the new album.  The electro enhanced rap of the song give it a cred that the simple dance tune chorus would never have achieved.  She sounds convincing, she sounds strong and its actually pleasing to the ear.

It has that 80's sort of thump, which could be why I appreciate it.  A touch of nostalgia is never a bad thing.  A female vocal must always be distinct and run a very fine line between tough and trash, girly and saccharine.  This song is just that and it really is well done.

I cannot speak for the entire album and I could potentially regret my statements here in weeks to come but I do believe I could get used to this.  Marina has shelved that squeaky baby voice thing she had done earlier and brought a bit of balls to the table, yet with girl pride.  This is an achievement only held by the likes of Gwen Stefani and Shirley Manson so when I state this it is a huge compliment.

I don't know if its just this song, but it does show she does in fact have what it takes to stand out in a crowd of skirts.  Lets hope the rest of her album and her proposed new single "Primadonna' maintain this sound.
