OK, sure, Usher is in at # 1 for the umptenth but Confessions ended up selling 10M units, this one crept in with a lousy 128K. Looking at it this way, his last album sold triple that. Congrats to Sheeran and Rush, but for different reasons.

US Top 10 Singles, June 30th, 2012

Four of these acts are brand new to 2012, and two are at the top. The only surprise is fun. who seem to not really belong with the dance pop phenoms that rule the single charts in this day and age. No rock, no country, no nothing… Strange, right?

With a superb lick playing all the way through the song, and Cat Power’s distilled dramatic vocals, this is actually much better than I claimed it was yesterday. Plus the hook is soooo good, “what are we doing, we’re sitting on ruin. And she makes us wait two minutes. The moral: WAIT TWO MINUTES FOR THE DAMN HOOK – Grade: A

Slow Club “Beginners” Video, Reviewed

The sadness is clear in every move the man makes and the passion of the song is shown in the way he mouths the lyrics like a man with a broken heart. At one point, while Rebecca sings “Oh, I’ve told you, oh, to be older. You know I’m right”, Dan hits a pole and then rests his forehead on hit and it’sa moment where I really felt the emotion of the song.

Lita Ford Making Amends

Ford, former member of The Runaways seems to be a bit melancholy and longing for the good old days now that she has split from her reportedly abusive husband David Gillette. For a bad ass rocker chick I find her describing her relationship as “Ike and Tina Turner” a bit over done.

Wham! For Mini-Tour!!!

In the terrible “Rock Of Ages” movie, they go out of their way to mock 1980s boy bands, but in all sincerity, Culture Club and Wham were better than any metal band of the 80s with the exceptions of Van Halen, Metallica and Guns N Roses. Just to put it all in perspective for you.

Can Music Ease Physical Pain? NO!!!!

Music’s power lies in its ability to function in the back and the foreground simultaneously. You can manipulate its presence by the power of your mind: if you’ve ever been listening to a song and gotten a phone call, you will see what I mean: the song instantly changes position in the levels of your brain.

The Raconteurs Release Live at Montreux DVD

The newly released Live at Montreaux was part of the tour in support of the band’s second album, and it includes tracks from both records. Since I never had a chance to see them live I couldn’t tell ya how they were with the stage presence.

Right Here – Justin Bieber, Drake – This is where modern pop veers wrecklessly into self-parody. Or rather, carefully into tedium. Written by committee, sung by automatons and produced by machines, it isn’t even catchy – Grade: D

Wilson Pickett On Vinyl

Up until now I’ve used my Sony turntable, but it too has the old RCA plugs. It would only work on our desktop computer and was a bit of a hassle to set up, so I didn’t use it as much as I wanted to. Then I spotted the Ion Quick Flash in Barnes and Noble and snapped it up.

Dan Whitley's Gods And Rockers

Whitley has that old time passion for rock music, and could discuss it all day between changing his one year olds diapers!!! But how good is he? Pretty excellent if the acoustic guitar break on the overwhelmingly moving and awesome “Calling All Gods” is anything to go by. These is a soaring big time rock anthem but it isn’t a self reflected glorifying song, at 8 minutes plus it takes its time to make its point.

"Rock Of Ages" Reviewed

“Rock Of Ages” would be much worse if their hit job was on a genre of music, or simply songs, that required talent to perform. From Journey to Poison, this is really naff material. And unless you consider the light voiced Tom Cruise doing a preposterously over the top “Pour Some Sugar On Me” anything but vaguely indifferent, you won’t take umbrage at the music.

Overnight sensation at 30 years old, Nate has spent the year watching fun. sell out room after room and, probably, wondering how the hell the dance rock band’s ode to failure, Some Night, became a feel good ode.

John Doe " Dont Forget How Much I Love You"

At first I wasn’t so sure that I could appreciate Johns new chill, but I do. At times he sounds a bit like John Mellencamp and Willie Nelson fell in to the Kitchen Aid and someone’s hit blend. Everything I’d hate right there in front of me.
