Man, do I have a story waiting for you. I sat with a Jahn Xavier and got the story of his astounding, still happening career. From Richard Hell ODing with Johnny Thunders to Bono advising him on how to get his set across when Jahn opened for U2 on the War tour, to his own Nitecaps and beyond story, it is all waiting for me to transcribe and post.
I'm hoping to get it done before Jahn's 50th Birthday annyversary gig on June 30th, 2012. But if I don't that is no reason for you not to hie the hence for what promises to a night of rock and soul.
Jahn's daughter Grace Of Spades will be DJing and, if she is in the mood may throw in some deep reggae cuts and her 45 of Costello's "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down" on TWO TONE (test pressing, never released!!!).
Jahn killed playing an acoustic set at Electric a couple of weeks ago, fronting a full band he should be unreal. The world beating mongrel considers his former band, the Nitecaps, soul done through his own rock perspective so don't expect his deep soul band covers outfit revival but more like the Nitcaps soul em and roll em. For sure, Jahn is a knock out frontman and a great guy who will be happy to say a howdy after the show.
The Bowerytones, for whom the buzz calls if you ask me, will be on stage at 9pm, and if you have never been to Bowery Poetry it is a great place to catch a band and I heartily approve… so go!
