Laura’s singing was vigorous and her organ pounding just enough to make sure you were absolutely certain she could play it well if never enough to distract from her role as front woman. The rest of the band were fine but background.
From what I can gather they were local heroes with a huge teen girl following around NYC in the 70s. Not quite the Trouser Press gang but more like neighborhood heroes. They had brains enough not to get too sucked up in things, cuz wait til you hear what’s up with them now.

The set goes back as far as 2007 and stops off at all points, with the second song a terrific, much livelier and deadlier “Songs For Your Girlfriend” and has a late set deep track “By Tundra” and in between hits the hits and hits the misses and the band cream the lot. I mean, the lot. With Gareth, a stockier Gareth with a beer belly, ascending each and every song.
I don’t know how this happened but that was the risk of the game, after being such a commodity for commercials and ads of any nature, may be corporations thought they could freely use any Black Keys song, because at the end who would be able to see the difference?
Wow, July 3rd is officially the quietest day of the year with nothing much at all released!. Otherwise, actually the next three weeks look a little sucky. I guess the Joe Jackson, Dirty Projector, JJAMZ and Marina might be worth a listen… but, I’m not PROMISING
We’ve hated Billy Corgan for so long and for so hard, it is almost a knee jerk reaction. The truth of the moment is that the man who called himself one of the greatest musicians ever, misjudges his gifts and it leads him to completely lack quality control. Still, this is a good Smashing Pumpkin album. all sonic textured guitars and Billy’s dispensable whine. If you were a fanatic and have been disappointed in the past, this will bring you round. if not, it lacks the one great song it needs to take it over the top – Grade: B
Where Have You Been (Calvin Harris Extended remix) – Rihanna – Calvin Harris returns to the scene of the crime. Same artist, same album song not as food but not bad. The remix is like something holding it from one end, somebody from the other and streeeetching – Grade: B+
Bieber is about the teen gals not about the dancefloor and he can’t mature if he can’t provide more songs like “Die In Your Arms” -he needs the money shot whether he is 18 or 28. And he doesn’t have it nearly often enough here.
Freezepop has continued their tradition of creating bland synth pop music but on their new EP, Doppelganger,they show that, once remixed by other artists, their songs can be more than mediocre. It kinda makes me feel bad for Freezepop but hey they’ve somehow become pretty popular with their electro fuzz when it isn’t remixed.
Many bands have tried to imitate this Laurel Canyon folk-Americana sound, but the Beachwood Sparks are the original ones, and the album promises to recapture this breezy, floating-above-your-head soundscape, animated by dreamy melodies for cool summer nights.

he world beating mongrel considers his former band, the Nitecaps, soul done through his own rock perspective so don’t expect his deep soul band covers outfit revival but more like the Nitcaps soul em and roll em. For sure, Jahn is a knock out frontman and a great guy who will be happy to say a howdy after the show.

The song is more poppy than usual, but the rhythm is very dynamic and the buried vocals talk about getting drunk and even worst, just perfectly trashy and decadent enough for FIDLAR, and oh yes, they have sampled this Partnership for a Drug Free America commercial featuring Henry Rollins
I could make the case that if it wasn’t for this song, the last played at a Bowery Ballroom set in February 2009, I would not have started rock nyc, “you don’t have to worry about us, we can look after ourselves…” a girls note to god , is Gareth’s mash note to the 21st Century – Grade: A+
Written in the key of E flat with a throbbing R&B inspired bass line, it was the perfect backdrop for Hollis’s soaring vocals and the springboard that launched the band to popularity.
The tune has a really fun, funky beat. It’s quite intriguing because it mixes in totally unique sounds and riffs and combines them with a few simplistic elements, making it holistically one of a kind and outstanding.
Lianne isn’t a draggy presense, she is a charming, amused MC and she stops even her weakest songs from being run of mill singer songwriter fodder with a consistently entertaining delivery. She is impossible to dislike
It’s true that the San Francisco quintet has some damn catchy foot-tapping sunny songs, like ‘California Feeling’ which would make any east-coaster move in a flash to the sunshine state.
This is a late show so be sure to get the OK from your parents/wife/ect. first. Doors are at midnight, and I’d expect the show to be going until 3:30-4am, so bring all the energy you got!

Conor Oberst seems to be the hottest indie guy around with shows selling out in record time. rocknyc has a couple of huge Oberst fans covering this autumns New York City show at Radio City Music Hall. Perhaps you missed out on the first round of dates or they simply weren’t close enough to get too.
They’re happy to tour with their friends. They’re grateful for Glee for their positive message. They don’t mind waking up at 5:15 to be on talk shows, they’re so grateful and happy and thrilled and honored and happy and having………………..fun
