Now here is the sort of opportunity we don't see every day, former Sleater Kinney guitarist Corin Tucker and her band at the intsy wentsy teeny weeny Mercury Lounge for a 630p which means you're out by ten and to be dead straight, who cares if you aren't.
2010's solo album 1,000 Years wasn't bad but except for maybe "Doubt" it wasn't the knock out punch she needed, especially since the rest of the band was waiting in the wings with Wild Flag and to be brutal about it, were about to cream her.
But the record is one thing, live is something else and from what I remeber of the live band, pretty much everything I might add, Corin was great on stage and usually in the center of the stage: essentially, Wild Flag flipped Corin for Mary Timony. I like Mary a lot and I like her a lot with Wild Flag but she is no Corin.
So, like so many bands before them, Wild Flag is about two thirds as good as SK, Corin Tucker a third as good.
NOW, that's all true BUT Tucker should still be on fire and that's about as close to the flame as you can get so to call her Thursday, September 27th gig at Mercury Lounge is essentially to state the obvious. I'd camp outside stubhub for this one if I had to.
