The first time I saw Dirty Projectors live was opening for TVOTR at Summerstage on a night that began cloudy and drizzly and got steadily worse. the good news was that I got very close to the stage, the bad news? They weren't very good Maybe it was the weather, maybe I was getting sick of being hit by umbrellas. Fair enough, right?
The next time I saw em was at MHOW and they were the hottest band on earth and no one had even heard of Tune-Yards but man did she bury em up to their neck: that one performance made Tune-Yards an instantaneous star of the Indie World and deservedly so.
I dunno what was wrong with Longstreth, or maybe he just doesn't project well on stage, but for the second time this card carrying sons (and daughters) of Brooklyn failed to hold the stage: maybe the songs are too busy. Whatever, but they were playing their hit album and missing it big time.
So now here is third time the charm for me. July 9th (a Monday) Dirty Projectors are back at MHOW and I am willing to give it one more go despite being thoroughly unthrilled by the new single. Tix are currently on sale…
