Cat Power's New Song 'Ruin' Off Her Upcoming 'Sun' Album

Last time I heard about Cat Power, she was recording her next album (and canceling her Coachella performance), but this time it seems almost a done deal. She just released a studio version of a new track entitled ‘Ruin’, that you can hear below in her new album 'Sun' announcement video, showing Chan Marshall tagging the word ruin in golden letters all over the place.

‘Ruin’ is her typical youthful, emotional, smoky vocals over a repetitive and obsessive Cuban-inspired piano line, as if ‘Free’ off her ‘You Are Free’ album had taken some Latino-flavor. The song is a busy and engaging one which travels around the world, with an angry cat Power singing ‘Bitchin, complaining from some people who ain’t got shit to eat’. She is really back,… and I thought she had been abducted by scientologists since her relationship with Beck’s brother-in-law Giovanni Ribisi! But apparently they broke up, she cut her hair, and we will have this album soon.

Sun’, which will come out on September 4, will be her first album after a 6-year-long absence, or even 8 years if you do not take into consideration her last album which was only a collection of covers.
