America is all about capitalism, materialism and owning stuff, nevertheless people are currently falling for streaming services? In a way, streaming is the equivalent of renting your music, you don’t own anything anymore, and you share it with everyone. Isn’t it weird America?

The problem with Apple Play is it makes navigation a little too difficult. The service is a little counter-intuitive. But, the more I use it the easier I find it: just click “New”, use the search, double click “New to start the process again. Save to “My Music” if you want to download it and add to your music, when the merge works it will merge with your own downloaded songs.
How can you go into another business when the business you have is not under control. Where is the full tilt power rush to get new customers? Why are the messing around with new ideas when the old ones aren’t firmed up?
I once pitched a Spotify muckety muck on the central importance of upping their paid subscription base and they all but sneered at me. There was nothing more important for Spotify and all they did was fuck around for the past three years. They should have advertised everywhere all the time, if they had 50 million paid subscriptions today, they’d be paying their artists a lot more money
With the field to themselves, they should have advertised Spotify everywhere till it became part of the landscape, till the commercial was being spoofed on SNL, and they should have gone after paid subscribers day and night, instead they sat back and waited and while they were waiting, Apple woke up.

The battle over streaming is a battle over prices not distribution. I don’t care what anybody says, the average person does not want to spend $10 a month on a streaming service, it is too expensive, but if songs and albums were cheap enough they would get back in the habit of buying them.
So my question is, will this dethrone Taylor Swift because she has removed her music from Spotify? Bakula thinks it’s simply impossible: ‘No amount of streaming in the world could keep Taylor from No. 1,’ he declared… this girl is definitively way too powerful for my taste.
It echoes what I see at shows where people, who have paid good money to have a good seat at a show that have chosen to attend, nevertheless check their messages on Facebook half of the time.
Whether Swift is weak or powerful, Lefsetz’s actions towards her have been horrible. It feels like bullying and nasty nasty bullying and now we know it is for someone who is, at the very least, indirectly making money off, which makes it very hard to stomach.

The assumption is Spotify and ITunes are fighting for the same piece of the pie while it is blatantly clear that they aren’t at all. It is two different type of consumers. The average listener may buy “It’s All About The Bass” without considering for a second joining a streaming club
It seems to me Spotify have settled themselves after last years somewhat stalled growth (and I still think they have passed on the older generation before they had to), are back to taking over the world of streaming by storm. And I believe this is a future of music distribution (which is what we are discussing, of course
I guess it is the guy in me, the lover of lists, but I find stuff like Billboard charts and here the Spotify streaing list interesting though, really, what here couldn’t you figure from the Billboard’s singles charts. Iggy, Sam Smith, Ariana, Nico, maybe Sia is a little higher than I thought would be, and maybe “Break Free” broke free a little earlier on Spotify than Billboard but what other surprises?
The pitch to the vast majority of people is simple: it is the difference between owning your own house and renting your own house. Which would you prefer? If you could make the price palatable people would absolutely go back to buying, and a buying music ublic is the best thing possible for musicians.
