Apple Music, the ballyhooed streaming service, launched three weeks ago and I use it it more or less as much as I use Spotify, I move between the two almost randomly. \
Spotify I use for organization (keeping track and filing new releases for future lists). I use Spotify for my own lists (three main one, a large best songs, a small best songs in order of preference, a best songs of the month and a song list that reflects everything I am listening to on a monthly basis).A huge problem with Apple Music is you can’t drag a song to a playlist, so you tend not to use it. Really, I use Spotify for work.
Apple Play I use for pleasure, for looking about.
At first I found Apple Play, which the wiseguys chose not to explain to you, very difficult to maneuver but for me, it became simple.
The problem with Apple Play is it makes navigation a little too difficult. The service is a little counter-intuitive. But, the more I use it the easier I find it: just click “New”, use the search, double click “New” to start the process again. Save to “My Music” if you want to download it and add to your music, when the merge works it will merge with your own downloaded songs.
On “New” you can find new releases, you can find “most popular”, new singles, and most importantly lists. I found “Spotify” lists not particularly useful but Apple Music’s playlists are very good
Sick of where you are? Double click on “New” and you are back to the main page. Sick of Apple Music? Click on “My Music” and you can find all your own stuff plus anything you’ve added to “my Music” in order of date.
As it stands I am using both, if I was to get rid of one I think I’d dump Spotify, though not till the the beginning of the year and not till they work out the glitches … or keep it as “Freemium” like “Rdio” or “Tidal” which I test drove and didn’t find up to much -though it looks great) .
Two other things:
1 – why does Apple Music not have a Web Player?
2- why is so much music missing? Apparently, Spotify and Apple Music stream, essentially, the same catalogs.
