As if this masterpiece didn’t already have enough emotional buildup that’s so strong it’s almost painful to listen to, the last line always makes me teary-eyed. There’s a sinking feeling in my stomach each time I hear it or read it, because it’s so tragic and unbelievable.
The problem with musicians is that their art has to be executed in front of an audience to really exist, but I would bet that a lot of them would prefer their work to exist without this obligatory condition.
