Though we may not think about it, there are many inventions that have revolutionized not only how we hear music, but how it's created. Here are some pretty fantastic innovations that are totally noteworthy:
1. The acoustic bass. Who the heck thought of this?! The acoustic guitar, sure, but once I saw a video of Fall Out Boy and Pete Wentz was using an acoustic bass guitar. Ever since, I thought it was one of the coolest things ever.
2. Garageband (home recording software). This is a double edged sword. On one hand, it's been boosting up local and pay to play bands and taking them to the next level if they don't get into a real studio or have proper equipment. On the other hand, it's encouraged stupid teenagers with computer access to fill the internet with their attempts to become famous.
3. The discman. This really allowed people to carry about their favourite albums and listen to them while working out, walking somewhere, or for entertainment purposes. The concept of personal portable music is pretty cool.
4. The cassette tape. They look cool, they're so retro, and they were the first real way to listen to music in your car. It's rare you see a vehicle with a cassette player, but it's pretty freaking cool.
5. The record player. This really was a huge deal because being able to listen to music at home, at all, is something that seems so trivial now and wouldn't be so if this hadn't existed.
6. iTunes. It's a great way to purchase music, videos, movies, and games. However, it's significantly helped out musicians with singles because if people don't want the commitment of buying a whole album, the can just get one song.
7. Youtube. This website has allowed people to share their music, give opinions on songs, and upload music videos with ease.
8. The loop pedal. Ed Sheeran uses one. Need I say more?
9. Autotune. I'm pretty sure those who appreciate this the most are famous popstars and Disney Channel bands. However, it's fun to mess around with.
10. Soundproof headphones. These are fantastic for drowning out the world. Especially if obnoxiously loud people are around you.
Without many of these, music would be so different
