Felt "Primative Painters"… and More

Felt.

Iman brought them up in his favorite tracks on Monday.  The song "Primitive Painter" being covered by Real Estate at the Girls show at T5.  Felt were an 80's alternative band led by Lawrence.  Lawrence has no sir name.  He was highly influence by Tom Verlaine- to an obsession from what I have read and the bands name is actually from the song "Venus".  Apparently Lawrence loved the way it was enunciated.

"Primitive Painter' is a lovely little song even with the banshee background.  The tune greatly embodies that entire time.  The darkly brood of say- someone more mainstream like The Cure or Siousie and The Banshees, just a cool smoky time.  Felts goal was 10 albums in 10 years.  That was done- and so were felt.  I like that, no reunion no resurrection.  Did what they had to and moved on.

Well not really.

Lawrence then started up Denim, another alty band that capitalized on his art school sound.  Apparently a love of fabrics was on tap- and I'm surprise there wasn't another band called Silk, Cotton, or Shantung.

None of the bands really blew up the charts but that cult following- don't mess with it.

So what's up with Larry now?

Hes fronting a band called Go Kart Mozart. Please don't confuse this with the trio from California. Let me tell you that Go Kart Mozart has a band photo so annoying I wont even listen to them.

What saddens me its not called 'alternative' anymore but 'glam rock' and 'parody'.  They were supposed to release material in 2010 but it didn't happen. I am still newly discovering this band but as of this writing- its freaking fantastic.  More research and follow up is needed but lets just say here is just another example of greatness sustained. "Electric Rock and Roll" sounds like Mick Jones.. alot.

Anyway, thank you Real Estate, Thank you Iman for turning us back to some really innovative stuff that has actually evolved to something worthwhile!
