The problem with this weeks Sassy Bach is that I can’t even recall when I got a hold of this album but I do remember what I was wearing. I think it must have been very early 80s there was a poster on my wall of Sylvester Stallone in the Lords of Flatbush hanging on my wall.
Raneri’s voice is absolutely gorgeous. It always is, in everything, but something about this tune just brings it out to a point where I’d probably name him top vocalist in my book. It’s the perfect balance of scratchy vocals and abundant, expansive vocals
My bet is millions of people saw that pix of Ben Affleck with a beard and thought, “not with my $14, you don’t”. There is something smug about the entire enterprise. And while movie critics probably got too caught up in the hype, it is difficult to convince people what they know not to be true
The video oscillates between darkness and light, mystery and reality, whereas the dream-pop dark song balances between Sha Sabi and Axel Steuerwald’s vocals, and offers tenebrous riffs, which could just fit between those of the Los Angeles indie band Great Northern and famous group Interpol.

It is hard to understand where this all comes from, how does Rod Stewart at 65 (which he was when I saw him at MSG and 68 (which he will be when he tours) has simply the energy to get on stage and sing and dance for hours on end.

Can You Believe It – Martha Wainwright – It’s been years since we’ve gotten new material off the other other Wainwright, but this sure ain’t “Bleeding All over You”. Instead, despite a funny opening line about loving make-up sex because it is the only kind she get, this is all marital. I wouldn’t mind so much if the song was a little more brittle. PS: her pipes are in fine shape – Grade: B
I am really exciting about it, now, that I can see how to deal with it. Not to worry about the names that are about to break but maintain my love for those bands that may get big,
Jeff Lynne is the voice of an old friend. I have always been a fan of ELO and to a fault promote them Corny? Yup! But I think the sound of Lynne’s voice has a somewhat soothing effect on me and considering the chaos I usually listen to- well its like a warm blanket.
Happy Oberst October! From now until I see the man at Carnegie Hall on November 21st, I’ll be focusing in on his music career, life, and anything that may fall inbetween.
The staging and lighting were excellent and John’s voice sounded the same and he gave up some angry yob stick by telling the securing guards to fuck off. His songs and the band were ok; but I think its time to put this chapter of punk behind us or at least until we get some fresh blood.
At the end there is no more good reason to review music we like than music we don’t care for, if we review music, all music should be reviewed. Still, because of its immense subjectivity, the value of reviewing music in the first place has to be demonstrated.
The nominees are official and voting ends on December 17, for the 2013 Songwriters Hall of Fame.. This honor has been bestowed upon some really lame people in years past but then again there have never been such amazing artists on the list. So without further delay let me congratulate Mr. Elvis Costello for his nomination into this ‘hall’.

This has to be the most horrible cover Punk Goes has ever done. The music is horrific the vocals pathetic and usually you can count on an awesome hip rendition of a really popular tune. In this case it sounds like the 11th grade garage band trying to book a gig for a school dance. Totally loosing the original vibe and replacing it with absolutely nothing of value.
Apathy – Trash Talk – The loudest song off their new album is also the best off their new album, a brash hardcore piece of thrash rock exploding loudly and then subsiding – Grade: A

He was 100% on, bopping up and down, arms to the heaven, dancing to the powerful deep bass beats, and triggering his disco charges as he lead a fine band. A terrific performance by the man who changed the face of modern music.

Yesterday, the band posted a new track called ‘AWWWKWAARRRDDD’ on their Tumblr, and, surprisingly, it’s a collaboration with British singer-songwriter Kate Nash,… or may be it should not be a surprise since Kate has previously covered their song ‘Cocaine’,… I had no idea!

CMJ Music Marathon 2012, October 16th to October 20th, 2012 all over the city, and I will be attending as a member of the press after my co-editor Helen Bach decided I wasn’t busy enough and requested a Press Pass and somebody at CMJ baffingly, though appreciatedly, approved.
The Ellie Goulding album I wish I liked more than I do. Which is not much. It is really blah, not unlike its name. As for ELO, ten years ago I would have assumed the first rate covers album by Jeff Lynne had heralded them in, today I assume they were on sale.
Wow, Swedish House Martin beat out Adele! How the hell did that happen? I am, frankly, shocked and pleased by this turn of events but I wonder what Adele is making of it? Certainly, the song, which is crap, though the singing isn’t, deserves to tank. Still, this should have been a slamdunk if only from the millions of nosey!
She – Jeff Lynne – Remember Elvis Costello’s cover? Neither does Jeff, this harks directly to Charles Aznavour’s original, and of course it isn’t as good. Except during the break, which seems to have escaped from an ELO album – Grade: A-
I always feel badly for bands when they have public breakdowns. Substance or otherwise its tough to have your undies in full view.
Patti Smith has always been a sort of mystery to me, singing epic songs like ‘Because the Night’, and ‘People have the Power’, and writing lyrics stuffed with literary, historical and religious references, being popular and intellectual at the same time, and alternating between rock goddess and muse of the rock stars.
Suzanne Real is the star of her second album Kiss Me Like A Man, and from the producer Ed Stassium’s prophetic opening direction: “Whatever happens, don’t stop”, Real catapults herself into the big time

Numbers – MellowHype – I thought their name was ironic, but on their second record MellowHype live up to its name. All very Wiz Khalifa but without the pop sensibility. The best tracks owe debts to Odd Future team mates Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt, in other places it is too down beat and dreary. And while I love the horn on “Brain”, and quite like the rap, exceptions don’t make rules – Grade: B-
You Don’t Know How It Feels – Tom Petty – Maybe a decade past his prime, Petty was still hovering between Southern boogie and Florida’s Springsteen. Pr, if you prefer, the Wallflowers. And here, he gets it all in a rock star confidential that spells out the quandary he faces: “you don’t know how it feels to be me”. Or is that “I’m too alone to be proud”? – Grade: A
When compared to her 2000 retirement concert at MSG (something else she has in common with Jay-Z) , it lacks the unerring sense of song to moment,. 2000 was easier because it was a career retrospective (no guests, no opening act) so the form was built in and all she had to do was follow all those great songs
If Elliott committed suicide and Jennifer Chiba is innocent, she should be allowed to have a life free of suspicions. If I were at her place, exculpating myself would be the only goal in my life, I would have been talking to the police nights and days, taking all the polygraph tests that exist until they recognize my innocence and close the case
this world he creates, he’s playing the song with himself- pretty interesting. I love the shots, and White is really lookin’ spiffy. The entire feel of the scene that’s set is frankly a bit creepy- it’s like an alternate universe Jack created where he has the opportunity to make “I’m better than you” faces at himself
When last I saw the band they were playing Los Angeles in its entirety and it was a brilliant thing. I actually got to speak to my idol Exene Cervanka and found her to be just as hot a ticket as she was ‘back in the day’ the girl is an inspiration.
YouTube declared they pay the labels and the song writers a percentage of the revenue generated by their videos, and take 45% of ad revenue, ….but 45% of what? That’s a mystery…

Winner – PETA – Whether you supported or didn’t support, Morrissey’s showing of the PETA’s horrifying “Meet Your Meat” film, played while he and his band played “Meat IS Murder” is irrelevant, if you saw it you could’t escape the images and sounds searing through you brains at the same time. A terrible brutal beauty of blood and murder that continues the moral debate of mankind. Do we eat animals?
