The Rolling Stones are back so this new discovery couldn’t have happeed at a better time for Lauren White and George Augusto!
When she was at a flea market in Saugus, a neighborhood of Santa Clarita, CA, White stumbled upon a little treasure: 23 candid, never-published photos of the Rolling Stones, relaxing around pools at hotels around the US!
These shots show the original band members, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts and Ian Stewart, looking as young as little babies! The pictures were taken during a 1965 road trip of the pre-fame Stones, through Savannah, Georgia and Clearwater, Florida, and it’s a mystery how they ended up at this Saugus flea market.
A guy who runs a stand there thought that White looked like someone who would like rock’ n’ roll – he was right as she is a musician – and showed her the pictures without realizing these shots were semi-precious. It was a little like discovering a Picasso in your attic, or may be not to that point, but still!
Lauren White’s friend, George Augusto, who is the owner of Dilettante, a music and art space in Los Angeles, offered to co-curate an exhibit of the photos with her, and the show will travel in Miami, New York and in the UK next year.
They still don’t know who took the photos, Brian Jones looked so handsome! Ironically he died in a swimming pool a few years later as everyone knows.
