Must See Concert: Trash Talk And Mellowhype

I am not insane over either the Mellow hype nor the Trash Talk new albums. Both of them miss the pleasure spot but I have a theory as to why: they are made for somebody a little younger than me. MellowHype has a stoner grudiginess so deep in its empathy and Trash Talk are hardcore one oh one but also, a dullard viciousness to it.

In the age of Fucked Up, where do Trash Talk go? And what can they do on stage except for rattle and roar.

And yet both bands have their best work ork before them, both of them are the edge of something, maybe something great: it is all toil and trouble and I bet that in the face of a rabid teen fan base they raise their game level.

The truth is, I have nothing really much to say, or think, about a lyric like, "you don't want to see the things I've seen, I'm surrounded by liars and thieves". It doesn't seem to be tearing through a deeper meaning but simply spitting out the admittedly poignant and honest but self evident and sad words of a million hardcore bands.

Mellow hype are the George Harrison of Fat Possum, the sort of hip hop band that followed in the wake of Kid Cudi to perform surgical art hits. As part of Odd Future I love them, but they work better as a change up then a fast ball, and it can get a bore.

But put em together on on one bill, they are playing Gramercy Theater on November 17th (a Saturday) and you may just have an awesome show indeed.
