Director Baz Luhrman is in search of a hit movie after 2008's disastrous "Australia" and, reunited with Leonardo di Caprio for the first time since they made "Romeo And Juliet" together back in 1996.
It will be in an adaption of "The Great Gatsby"… just what the world has been gagging for, right? Perhaps it is me, but there is something shallow about Leo that puts me off. Redford, who wants veryu good when he portrayed Gatsby, at least had the gravity for the role. In movie after movie, Leo isn't serious enough. Look at his J. Edgar Hoover, where all the hair dye in the world failed to make him a believable figure.
Of course, as Luhrman proved in "Moulin Rouge", he himself is not that serious a fellow: all purple signposts to an Italian decamoran he never quite pulls off. But still… having the actors lipsync tp pop songs was a great idea. And while I doubt he is doing the same here, it is also a pretty good idea to get top tier rock stars to forward original material.
Cast member Adelaide Clemens had this to say to the Playlist: ''They have some new music that's going to be added to the film…Some pretty huge artists have approached Baz and are writing songs for the film, and I don't think Warner Bros. are going to turn down Prince and Lady Gaga knocking down your door.''
