The Doobie Brothers owned the 70s. I swear they were everywhere and had more classic hits than I can mention. I can’t recall anyone who had a negative word for them. They had that hard rock thing going on with just enough soft to broaden their horizons. I wasn’t a fan.
That whole “Listen To The Music”, “China Grove” stuff was laughable to me then. Then again it was past their prime. Those songs were big in 72, by the time I came around they were playing in the dentist’s office. The most clear memory I have is making fun of Michael McDonald cuz he never opened his eyes when he sang.
A new DVD/cd combo is being released on November 13 in celebration of their ridiculous and long career. Revealing the highs and lows of their forty years of business all the band members and producers throw in their two cents here.
The band broke up in 1982 but everyone needs a paycheck so they reformed and still tour to this day. They aren’t the swarthy rockers they once were but they have enough back catalog to sustain and enough old time fans (now of age) to buy show tix.
The DVD will feature live performances of "Rainy Day Crossroad Blues," "Without You," "Listen To The Music," "Black Water," "Takin' It To The Streets," "Rockin' Down The Highway," "Neal's Fandango," "Long Train Runnin'," and "China Grove”. Of course, I aint got no worries cuz I aint in no hurry at all.
