The band played this song, and a few other new ones, at the Great Hall in Toronto on February 8th, during one of their ‘Long Winter’ nights. The series of shows was ‘a monthly night of immersive and interactive music, installations, visual art, readings, food, and dance to help Toronto get through our long and cold winter’, and featured artists, lecturers, dancers, videographers, and other bands.

Right now I am prevaricating on the Desaparecidos show, songs like the one here, ten years old, don’t do it for me at all. And some of “Fake French” remains, the other seven are all New Release Wednesday, with Bowie at the top, Hank poorly recorded and Atoms For Peace on hold till tomorrow.
Fake French can take pride in the organization and also booking four diverse but excellent most Girl rock bands in a scintillating and well made three hours of great music. Enough to make you want to form a band and change the world.

This cruise though, its pretty interesting. I really admire the cost. Starting at just $599. its not a massive rip off as some others are and the Florida to Bahamas itinerary is solid.

These days, Nugent probably tours the county-fair circuit attended by camouflage-attired-over-the-hill fat guys carrying guns at concerts and driving pick-up trucks with deer trophies in the trunk. His audience totally embodies the racist-redneck cliché.
The rest of the movie has some “boooo -gotcha” moments but it is really a miserable slog to a sucky and sad with just a tinge of hope ending and it could’ve been so much more. The entire thing has some irritants that only emerge as major problems towards the end: it is like being told you have a cough and discovering it is really lung cancer.
For sure, Claire’s Diary is the best of the lot but Atoms For Peace might well make it on to my top 10 albums of 2013. Johnny Marr won’t and I can’t even guess whether Emmylou and Rodney come up with the goods… well, I can guess. My guess is yes they do release a good album.
Claire’s Diary, Tinvulva and Kelly Montoya are because I am still buzzed on the Fake French gig and Tomas because the song I wanna hear from his set I don’t have yet. Nick Cave song is so good I forgive him most of his sins on the new album and X was covered by Tinvulva
The first two songs were last years EP so they had the audience interested from the get go, and the fourth song was “Give Him A Big Kiss” and so they kept em tight for the next fifteen minutes. To put it simpler: the set worked.
I put the poster in my bag and kept the setlist on hand. ‘I think he will sign it’ told me the guy standing just before me on line. He obviously was right, and I wasn’t the only one to break the rules, a guy made him even sign his leg for a tattoo template!
The mixture of sounds and the composition makes you barely notice the way it changes to the next track until you realise it’s actually much darker. It feels angry. Though both of the songs have no vocals, you can absolutely tell the emotion. “…

I suppose after weeks of yuck we deserved it but this really is note worthy. Considering there isn’t much new material wise the guests chosen are pretty dang fabulous.

Western Mass – Claire’s Diary – Still buzzing after the concert, this is the one where drummer introduces as about the only time she ever got arrested! And then the song is a really strong payoff withhim leaving her in jail while he hightails it. Boys will be boys!! Grade: A
So when SNL attempt to jams garbage like The Lumineers up my butt I take it as a personal insult. Look, I know how fabulous it USED to be- don’t try to serve me this lifeless sludge now.
The sort of rare performance that gives you chills along the spine for close to 2 hours, makes you walk on a cloud the following day, and stays with you long after it’s over
We as a species were robbed of such a bright and beautiful human force of hope and goodness and creative power, I can’t help but be struck by the ultimate tragedy of a man who gave the rest of us so much.
It was very good stuff, relentlessly powerful with “Brooklyn To Ethiopia”‘s bass and drums ridden roughshod and Tomas telling the audience to raise their arms, clap their hands, get involved. “Rise Above” is harder and faster on stage, Tomas is like Carol Kane in the Bill Murray movie “Scrooged”, he pushes us shoves us, bends and bangs us to dance for his vision of Global Soul and Global Peace.
In this song, we find this youngster speaking to a close friend and going all out, pushing for her to see the possibilities of diving into a fearless love imbued with mutual respect, equality and shared pleasure.
It looks great in a very dark way. Let’s face it we would all love to turn back the clock to our glory days, we just can’t. I have decided to support Adam and his pursuit of happiness, after all he brought a heap of joy to a lot of folks- so let’s give it back to him now.
Jamie Lidell – Jamie Lidell – English DJ’s sophomore effort at blue eyed soul is an electronic wonder of heartfelt r&b and beautifully crafted music. While it goes a little off the deep end before the end of the album, the first half is first rate and the first three songs are funky and fun. ALBUM OF THE WEEK – Grade: A-
Sure, I saw the eleven minute youtube clip of Steve Angello button pushing his set. Really? Pre-recording pre-recorded music? Lucky Swedish House Mafia are this good, the standard bearer EDM supergroup, and lucky this is their last tour, which reaches MSG on Friday and was so good last time, it will definitely be worth a fond adieu.
Catcall – Tinvulva – Sarah Soller-Mihlek, singing lead on this vicious assault on sexual harassment on the streets of New York, a subject a good friend of mine often complains about though I don’t take nearly seriously enough. Sarah represents for so many women: “I am not your sugar baby” she howls in indignation though the guitar makes it much much angrier – Grade: A-

From the album The Savage Playground, ‘California’ is a sad attempt at glam metal- I think. That’s the problem there is no genre represented here. I love the YouTube comments though, calling the guitarist fat “there is no room for fat in glam”.
