Fall Out Boy went on Hiatus an the world sort of stopped. Finally there was a new band that was gaining popularity and actually had a new and interesting sound. Kids and their parents could appreciate the simplistic sound and heart felt lyrics. Concert venues were getting bigger. Meet and Greets were selling out and tiny little girls were headed in to the big city for Clandestine signings with Pete Wentz and sobbing uncontrollably after meeting the dark haired bassist.
Boom. Lights out.
Rolling Stone magazine has a great little article (did I just say that?) this month that spares us the babble and cuts to the chase. Wentz was hooked on pills, Hurley was in serious depression and there was an unnamed drunk..so that was either Trohman or Stumpf. Sad huh, and the fame wasn't even that fast. Well, regardless they packed up their gear and headed in to the sunset. Each of the four not doing so well outside the FOB world.
To our great pleasure on February 5th they returned. Kill the fatted tofu the prodigal band had returned and the insanity that followed was absolutely contagious. Well the hiatus is officially over after three years and their new album is due out on April 15th. Now making that date something to look forward other than a reminder that your taxes are due.
Pete Wentz seems somewhat surprised to say the least. But the pull out walk away method never is really the best way to go, unless you're coming back of course. Then it adds to the anticipation.
Pete has noted a significant change in the dynamics of the group.
"When we got on stage in Chicago, it was crazy. It was a rush, because we honestly didn't think people would care, and that's the truth. But it felt like we didn't miss a beat," he explained to MTV News.
'It's so early in the process and things are happening so much faster than we thought; the first time you do things, there's no instruction book; It's not like 'Oh, okay, you shouldn't act like an idiot.' We're all more appreciative and we've all grown up a bit. It's cool to do Fall Out Boy as Fall Out Men."
Pete is loving Fall Out Boy's new-found camaraderie.
Their mutual maturation has allowed for some great music to be written.
"One of the cool things about coming back was that we decided everyone has to be in on every idea, or else it's out. We did ten songs [for the album], maybe there will be eleven songs on there," Pete said.
"We have other cool ideas, but we're definitely not in that part of being in a band where you're like 'Oh, well, this dude likes this song, so I guess we'll put it on the album, and we'll probably never play it and nobody will care about it.' … That can happen; and so it feels so good to be so far from it. We're having the reunion sex, so like it's so awesome that we don't have to bring in the whips yet."
Their support tour starts stateside on May 14th in Wisconsin. We catch the first East Coast show in Freehold NJ at the Skate and Surf Festival May 18.
