Let’s see, naked Asian people, foaming beers, tattooed boobs, cigarettes in the nostrils, wild sex on fast motorcycles, BBQ octopus? That was not my vision of family! When I listened to Hanni El Kathib’s new song, ‘Family’, a few weeks ago, I had no particular scenario in mind but certainly not this wild Quentin-Tarantino-esque-Japanese-Grindhouse one!
Noisey just posted the video on their website with director Nick Walker’s notes:
‘I directed the video in the beginning of January 2013 up at the Wright Ranch in Malibu. I had written that treatment 3 years ago in a notebook with other ideas and concepts. After a few conversations with Hanni about different video ideas, I sent him over some scans from the notebook with a few different ideas. A year after receiving these he asked me if I was still interested in doing the 'Wild Asian Motorcycle Sex Gang' video, and I said, ‘Of course.'’
Yeah, why not, there are no rules in art, right? The film sure reflects the badass-bad-boy image and the feeling of speed and danger arising from El Khatib’s music, but why the hell are these gang members riding their motorcycles in their underwear? Oh because they are sex gang members, I got it!
'Family’ is the first single off Hanni El Khatib’s upcoming LP ‘Head in the Dirt’ produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, set to be released on April 30th via Innovative leisure.
Watch the video below, it’s certainly not your average MTV-friendly thing!
