I was surprised at some of the albums missing . Jay-Z passing on Kingdom Come Reasonable Doubt and American Gangster?Yeah weird but nothing compared to Kanye West’s ridiculous decision to ignore debatably his greatest achievement 808s And Heartbreak
Could you get more cool than having your Wikipedia page explain your band name as follows “Mark Foster originally named his band Foster & the People, but people misheard it as “Foster the People”. Eventually, he took to the nurturing image it evoked of “taking care” of the people, so the name stuck” I think not and their latest video just proves that the band has lost its fringe.
MSG on Tuesday? Big time. Why? Not Jay-Z, who has been getting worse ever since his retirement at the very same venue. Who hasn’t toured behind Dark Fantasy and is playing songs from his masterpiece.
Deacon Blues – Steely Dan – These guys never got out of college and in the wake of Alabama getting beaten by LSU Saturday night in one of the best games I’ve seen in awhile, perhaps these manic depressive smartass dropouts will make em feel better.
Maroon 5 are perfect complement to the cream of wheat bland that SNL has become. Despite a hit of “Moves Like Jagger”, M5 could be the background music to any teen drama or prime time soap opera. There is a place in the world for weak comedy and lackluster music. Tonight on SNL we have the yin and yang of mediocrity.
From a George Jones cover, to an early SST era work out, to all three songs performed with Nirvana at the legendary MTV Unplugged concert, through erstwhile Grateful Dead jams, skronk, white noise, speed metal and punk.
The rapping’s genius, and the lyrics are punchy with a lot of hooks and clever lines. The beat makes it a good party song, and it’ll be a good one to sing along to. GCH keeps appearing and disappearing, and as other artists start covering their earlier work, Travis and the gang finally let loose something new in this latest single.
ya figure these cats are older than your pop.. I suggest they hurry. On the 41st anniversary of playing LA’s infamous the band will make some sort of profound statement, tour, record, or just another box set? The rumour is all four original members will be on hand for this ‘monumental’ event. Are they simply too late to cash in on a revival?
Ronnie Radke, and Falling in Reverse are members of the esteemed Epitaph Records family. I wonder if its financial or if its simply conflict? Regardless of the why, its just plain unfortunate that this hot new band wont make the East Coast this season. To miss an opportunity to see them with the amazing We Came As Romans, is just salt in the wound.
An auction for charity. A telecaster from Indie icons. Radiohead gives it away to give back to the Billie Butterfly Fund. Ebay offers a forum to reach out and touch a child in need. This is a much better offering than dance lessons with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, thats for sure. Hurry though the auction is up for just a limited time.
It is, by far, one of the best tours of the entire year and we’re lucky it’s only two dates are up here in the NorthEast! Glamour Kills, the clothing line for rockstars (and rockstar wannabe’s) jumps on the sponser a show bandwagon! Vans, Journeys, and Pac Sun are just a few of the other retailers who took a stab at show promotion and won.
‘It wasn’t the most fun I’ve ever had on tour, I was kind of melting down, mentally, on that tour but every time I was hanging out with those guys, it was fantastic.’ It cant be easy to be that over the top at every show. Could this be a press gimmick or a could Fucked Up really be heading in to the sunset?
a little worse songs, a little slower, and a little better played. Every week a new batch of songs from every genre are showcased in a forum that let you know if its worth not ony your time but worth your dime. From Megadeath to Carole King, this week is no different and no less diverse. the problem is nothing is really that grade A.
Mine To Design – Wesley Wolfe – Hold out for the coda -a beautiful instrumental breach. Topping todays My Favorite Tracks list Wesley Wolfe, of North Carolina’s Odessa records is on constant repeat.
A satire about two Mormon Missionaries in Uganda seriously failing to connect with the denizens of a village with bigger worries than Joseph Smith, pretends to be cutting edge theological satire but it isn’t really. It is really difficult to fun on Mormonism. Though, as faith’s go, not that far out.
A celebration of the Northern California punk scene “Not So Quiet On The Western Front”, included a fanzine that I studied like a scholar. Some people go to Bible study, I went to Maximum Rock and Roll Study. Armed with this sound, that rag and a pair of oxblood Doc Martens, I put on the X of NY HC (New York Hardcore), and hit the streets with a scowl.
So indie could be an attitude rather than a genre, just like punk, more an ethic than a sound
They haven’t even heard the record yet, and they’re recommending various forms of torture and death
We ask that our fans and the media be respectful of our request for privacy for those that have suffered this terrible loss
focusing on the keyboard and the distant-dreamy vocals
I’m not joking, and I’m not being egotistical.
I urge you to read the Occupy Manifesto, written by the New York City General Assembly.
Goldenvoice Productions, is going to celebrate its 30 years next month!
a fave local band playing a week today
Get well Johnny, no one rocks a ginger mullet better than you.
they launched eight of their little missile-like songs without even taking a breath between them.
put Dennis Lee and Robert Plant in a boxing ring, Plant would leap the rope to protect his hair and his pants would split.
they may have been just a bit ahead of their time and in a gob of mediocrity
not-taking-themselves-seriously niche, with plenty of sunny beaches
