Iman and hel do SNL: Maroon 5

Saturday Night Live decided to go back to the generic mundane tonight with LA pop band Maroon 5.  Maroon 5 is one of those bands that sound so bland its similar to eating white rice. Not exactly a flavor explosion but its great if you just aren't sure you can hold down solids.

I have a disdain for music like this- its what people who aren't 'into music' listen to.  This is white noise, background noise so you don't go nuts listening to the clocks tick at work.  Adam Levine, the lipless lead singer makes the girls swoon (and himself apparently- from what I see he does enjoy the view of a mirror), but again I see no sex appeal at all.  Just a generic white male singing for a generic white male pop band.

So considering that Saturday Night Live is somewhat bland these days I expect a nice and boring viewing on this first November Saturday.  Both Iman and I are without live show to cover so this is a relaxed evening.  I of course will do my best to keep an open mind- no promises of course.

Maroon 5 currently have a hit in the song "Moves Like Jagger".  The issue here is Jagger had swagger…..Levine?  Not so much.  The video is an atrocity, Levine like an emaciated 30 something just made me want to vomit. Although, Iman loved them live and thought their last two albums were fab, he has a greater appreciation of the subtlety of pop.

But never mind that its "Live From New York" time….

From the fish white belly glimpses of the getting older Levine and fun with the camera lens interaction I realized that this is just not for me.  "Moves Like Jagger" is much better on the radio most likely cuz I don't have to see them.

Iman calls this a restrained performance but a great falsetto- we both agree there's that pre recorded whistle.  Is there a reason for that? Its rather lame but perhaps it came free with the recorded Christina who was smart enough not to come out to be on this atrocity of an episode.  Perhaps Levine is restrained cuz he fell asleep waiting for his prompt to come to stage.  I a have never seen a weaker SNL, and I have seen alot.

Iman appreciates pop for pops sake.

I try but fail.

 Iman adds:

The second song was a battle of the arm tats with Adam and Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes nailing "Stereo Heart" just about exactly how you imagined it. What impressed me most was the sense of calm confidence the band exuded on both songs: both tracks are huge hits, and the band realized they didn't have to over do em to sell em hard.
