Can nobody find one bad word about and if they can’t then at what point in the proceeding does rock criticism not criticize? How can NPR not tell the truth about the albums they are streaming? Why lie? Why not say some of this is good, some of it isn’t, listen and judge for yourself?
It is well documented that he started a rehab treatment at the Neurotransmitter Restoration Center in August 2002, and according to what we know (Ben Nugent’s bio and Liam Gowing’s Spin article) moved in with Jennifer Chiba just after his treatment, fall 2002. By then, he and Valerie had split up. However, it looks like Chiba was in his life before the rehab episode, when he was still dating Valerie. This part may bother a few people who are used to a clean-cut story, he dated Valerie Deerin, then Jennifer Chiba, but the reality is much foggier than this!
Historic agreement reached today in the US and Iran today which lifts sanctions on Iran and in return halts Iran’s quest for nuclear weapons. The 4 Knots Festival moved to the much larger larger Pier 84 this year and on a gorgeous afternoon with an astounding line-up art rock guitar bands, the larger area made it much easier to enjoy after overcrowding was a problem last year. A spectacular even, a ten minute walk from Time Square, it was a quintessential New York even. Standout? Stephen Malkmus was great and Twin Peaks were a revelation. Full review to follow.
Now is the summer of our discontent, where like reverse Yogi Bears talk show hosts waddle off and hibernate through the summer till who knows what, right? I guess I will go with OMI on Fallon because I wanna take a closer look at the “Cheerleader” star, maybe he will have something to tell me I don’t know about the weird world of reggae based one hit wonders.

US Women’s soccer world champs had a ticker tape parade and we are all the better for it. That first sixteen minutes of the World Championship is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. I hope they make lots and lots of money.
The film is set in 1970’s London and is apparently not a biopic as it rather follows a young boy ‘whose life changes dramatically when his estranged mother (played by Natasha McElhone who played Karen in ‘Californication’) introduces him to the music of The Clash’, by sending him a cassette of “White Riot.”
What sort of fools do they take us for? Really, what a pathetic little maneuver. If this wasn’t a set up from beginning to end, what does the word set up actually mean? It is a wretched little business move by a rich, smart woman who lost any sense of moral balance. Or, again, that is my perception of the situation.
Billy is 67 years old so, as Mike Holcomb noted, he probably has Medicare. Also, he is a staunch conservative and would probably not sign up for Obamacare any way. Yes, folks, Friday is the new Tuesday and if you have had to spend an extra three days listening to Neil Young, now praise the Lord Alight the long wait is over and when you go on Spotify or Apple Play or Rdio, there they will be waiting at 5am tomorrow, all shiny and new and ready to be ripped apart by your friendly neighborhood rock critic.

With neither the plot nor the intelligence of the Gru classics, it is a kid’s movie for kids, which, when it aims for the adults, misfires. Despite the occasional smart touch, a great dance with Tower guards to a Queen song had me smiling ear to ear, and despite some truly lovely animation and 60s period detaul, this is not a very good movie . The Minions were ionce cute and now they are cutesy… what a shame.

A busy day for computer malfunctions, first the NYSE closes for hours, then American Airline closes for hours and then the Wall Street Journal goes down. I arrived almost two hours before the time — and that’s dedication — but the front of the building was already full of people, mostly ‘old’ people, but it is insane to qualify Beatles’ fans of old, these people have kept the fire in their belly, they are still excited to see one of the two Beatles left on earth, and they still believe that peace and love can change the world… it is so refreshing. But you know how bands always say they have to tour to compensate the fact they are not selling albums anymore? As you can see on this graph, the compensation is barely achieved. If you compare bands’ album revenue in the 80’s, today’s successful bands can hardly compensate by touring.
By the end of the damn thing you’ll realize none of it made the slightest bit of difference even within the Terminator universe. So, beware of # 6 which has at least this going for it, it can’t be much more of a waste of time for a movie that opens with its best moment: young and old Arnold battling each other.

This is going to lead to a big problem, people will not be able to express opinions anymore, they will not take the risk to be ostracized by others. And so what? are we going to end in a like-everything world? I have to admit it, I am sometimes tired to push that ‘like’ button, but, if I don’t do it, will people get mad at me? Yes, some will! Murderers don’t get that, violent rapists don’t get, Ponzi schemers don’t get that. Jennifer Fichter? She gets that. The US gave Japan a spectacular drubbing in the FIFA Women’s World Finals, four goals in the first 16 minutes. A spectacular win and revenge for 2011 (not to mention Pearl Harbor), Carli Lloyd’s hat trick, three goals before the game had even kicked into gear was too much for Japan to come back from. It is so very strange, These can’t be albums he isn’t proud of, Crystal Ball alone is better than anything he released this decade. Of course the story of the video, if you can say that it has a coherent story, is about Rihanna and her gang kidnapping the wife of a rich accountant, so the fans’ kidnapping story was totally making sense in this context, but isn’t it a lot of effort for a short movie? According to the participants, the whole deal, including the wait to get in the bus, lasted 4 hours, 4 hours of their life to see a 7-minute clip!…Still they got to see and meet Rihanna, which has to be priceless if you are a fan. Plus she poured dollar bills on the crowd, so it was not too shabby.
Really, talk show hosts? Really? I am getting one day off from my advertising job and no days off from rock nyc, and what are the other half doing? They are getting two weeks of reruns. Not for nothing, but do some damn work. What the hell is this. If I was James Corden I would go out of my way to make sure I’m working. God save Conan, the only guy to wake up and do his job. A two week vacation… I dunno, man…
