New Crazy Horse Album Filled With Folkie Standards

News that this eagerly awaited album will feature folk standards leaves me with this great urge to crawl into a ball and go to sleep and the addional news that a children’s choir is included makes me wonder why they don’t cover “Career Opportunities” as well (check out the last song!! -at least I hope it’s the Sex Pistol)

That is what a real good concert can do… take over your fave track list! Though, at least three of these songs are on my best of 2012 list and only one is by Odd Future.

Post-Authentic? Think So, Bruce?

What is he trying to tell us, exactly? How don’t we know it? Were we born under a rock? Have we been asleep all century???? Forget century, have we been asleep since the 1980s? Or is he just trying to make fellow fathead Dave grohl’s ridiculous analog argument look bad????

Rock And Roll Belongs To Teenagers

The truth is, as we grow old we suck the life force out of rock and roll by not leaving it, not letting teenagers, who own it, to keep it. But what do you do when Chuck Berry is in his 80s? “Ring ring goes the bell” was a distance memory when Berry first wrote it, what is it today?

Drake And The Pains Of Promiscuity

For me as a person, it just doesn’t work. I just need something else. The seconds after a man reaches climax, that’s like the realest moment of your life. If I don’t want you next to me in that 15, 20 seconds, then there’s something wrong.

Now I fell bad for, er, weighing in at all on the topic. I mean, it’s not like she is obese. A little on the large side, sure. But nothing that horrendous. I mean she isn’t Solomon Burke, right?

Dryness is the new lightness, Pitchfork are dry because they are important, Billboard is dry because it’s important, Spin is dry because nobody knows how to write…I can’t tell you what AP is like because they’ve built an impenetrable wall round their website just in case somebody wants to read em.

a sincerely tongue in cheek spin, with Jonah Hill (so good in “Moneyball) as the nerd and Channing Tatum (so good in… hold on, give me a second) as the hunk, going back to High School to uncover the Mr. Big who is dealing a deadly designer drug.

"Last Days Here" Reviewed (More Or Less)

the early Pentagram stuff on their compilation First Daze Here needs no excuse whatsoever from me. It is outrageously great hard metal with a great vocalist -who can sound an awful lot like Jim Morrison, and stunning guitar. You can believe it should make it big. And When Sean Pelletier, a vinyl junkie addicted to music hears it, it changes his life

Sneak Peaks, Week Of March 19th, 2012

Some week, eh? I’m going to see Odd Future tonight, so didn’t even wait till Spotify put it up. But it is some week any way: The Shins, Margot, T-Bone (which got a lousy 3 out of 4 in RS which means it’s probably the absolute pits) and Jack White…

Black 47 At BB Kings, St. Patrick's Day, 2012, Reviewed

Black 47 were the greatest rock and roll band in the world. Celtic rockers who not only sang of, but lived, the Irish immigrant life in New York City. But not the potato famine refugees become cops and politicians, wild eyed rockers living on the lower East Side and playing CBGB’s twice a month. A one of us first generation American dreamer

Not only did I not like Odd Future at T5 last year, U don’t much like “Rella” either. But “Rella” is growing on me and “NY (Ned Flander)” is better and this gig, on Tuesday, is at the vastly superior Hammerstein Ballroom, plus I have a balcony seat so I might see something without dying

What’s the difference between Lionel Ritchie and Bruce Springsteen. Based upon this chart, not so much if you ask me. It took a weak for Bruce to fade and Adele is already selling more per week. Home Again is slow and a little boring and yet, it has a definite style and the song writing is strong

I am not at all sure about the new Paul Weller but really I haven’t been that sure since The Jam A song, even an album, here and there, but even the Style Council weren’t as good as I wished they’d been. Perhaps I have lost the Englishness I need to respond to him. Plus, cmon… that haircut is awful.

Larry Lachmann Bounces Back

The Bounce gigged for three years and then called it quits. Larry claims the best thing about being in a band, besides the girls, was his friends in the band. And if you met Lachmann, who is a remarkably nice guy, you might be excused for assuming it was his influnece that made it such a pleasant experience.

Patrick Stickles Is The World's Last Great Rock Star

So the very idea of the big Arena bands, from the Stones to U2, is antithical, it’s beseides the point, a marketing ploy. And so sincere people sneer at it. It is beneath an indie rocker like Titus Andronicus leader Patrick Stickles even if he is the last person on earth capable of doing it.

Here’s why I am listening to a son from an album whose lead track is “Here Come the ’80s”. I went to see the Stones tribute Tuesday night, Rosanne Cash sang “Gimme Shelter”, Cash covered this song on her brilliant Somewhere In The Stars album. Crowell was not only Cash’s husband at the time, but he wrote the song himself and did a pretty good job singing it. Not as good… Grade:A-

Madonna Mom: Hard Knock Life

this song, like so many off those first two albums, was about one of the sexiest voices in the business. Chrissie is all come on, all flirt, all casual tension And it is also a perfect melodic countrpoint to the vocal and lyric, the break seems to be rushing head first into a new romance and the verses and choruses are oddly coy. Grade: A+

Laura Marling Has New Live Album This April

My feelings about Laura Marling are pretty well known by now, right? I hated her for years, got buzzed by an obscure album track, on one wild Sunday night caught her at the McCattrick Hotel (wild? I went to see Jane Birkin the same night) and have been a complete fanatic ever since.

John Mayer Cancels Tour

For the great white hope guitarist whose gift is his fingers and his cavalier way with women (it inspired Taylor Swift’s awful “Dear John”),but it is his voice that has stopped him in his tracks with a type of cyst above his vocal cords. Bruce Springsteen And the E Street Band Concert Setlist 2012

Bruce believes in his new album. If he thought it was a dog he wouldn’t play that much of it. Which answers the question as to whether Rolling Stone were lying. I think he has overdone “Ball” here but maybe he will shake it up later on. And I can’t believe he is opening with “We Take Care Of Our Own” -though I may be in the minority, I think time will prove me right.
