the Marvelettes were the Supremes redux, and forever remembered for the Beatles cover of “Please, Mr. Postman”. But I am in the middle of their greatest hits vol 2, and give em a listen.

Spotify And The Atomic Bomb

I pay $10 a month for Spotify and have it on my cell and two pcs. When I have suggested this to other people as the deal of the century they think I’m crazy. They don’t spend $10 a month on music, why would they pay $10 a month for a subscription to a streaming site

Charlotte is such a Daddy’s girl, her Mom, Jane Birkin, is lost in the background somewhere. But if the vocal here isn’t a tribute to Birkin, what else explains the breathy desirability?

Madonna Signs To Universal

her contract with Warner Brothers came to an end and Universal Music, who have been doing an awful good job of sticking it to WB this year (UMUS bought half of EMI from under WBs nose) , have signed her to a three year $3 Million contract.

Chicago’s favorite sons are a rock nyc fave but not one of mine. The opening song off their latest track is a relation to grunge, at least in that it is all playing with pace and tone. The song is hard but not too hard, sorta teen rock.

Roman In Moscow – Nicki Minaj – I found all that Roman crap a drag when I saw Nicki opening for Britney earlier this year. But that notwithstanding, she is a truly great rapper

"I Melt With You" Reviewed (More Or Less)

As an examination of male bonding or male angst it beggers the imagination, and while I should have probably disliked it more, it has a sort of visceral power and I enjoyed the mens affection for each other, I didn’t really enjoy it.

“Let it be known that I was who I am” is a better benediction than peace on earth or good will to all men. It is nearly impossible to be who you are, how wonderful if you could be.

Eric Contractor Going For Baroque

Baroque pop” is an obvious claim, but his own “bel-canto art-rock” is better. How about this: imagine 1980’s band the Associates Billy Mackenzie singing Broadway tunes arranged by Burt Bucharah… ?

Best Tracks 2011 #41 – #60

Ohio – The Black Keys – You are probably too young to remember the scratch and sniff album cover of the Ohio punk compiliation in the 1970s. It smelled of burning rubber. Only a local like Chrissie Hynde or the Black Keys could romanticize the State and get away with it

Danny’s Song – Loggins And Messina – This is soft rock, it floats on a cloud of mellow and all these years later I bet someguy somewhere is singing it to his wife.Full of the hope in young marriage and family at the beginning of a journey. Loggins wrote it for his brother and I wonder how it worked out..

Speak Now – World Tour Live – Taylor Swift – Fan only momento except three covers in the middle, I wish the “I Want You Back” was longer. If they had any imagination, they’d release another album just covers. The DVD is the show on video. Grade: B

On The Floor – J Lo and Pitbull – When not tooling around L.A. and pretending it’s the Bronx, or wasting her time on American Idol, J Lo can occassional kill it. as in this track with the incomparable PR PB.

D'Angelo Back In 2012

The purveyor of precisely two albums, each a masterpiece, his performance at Radio City Music Hall -a three hour act of stamina and bravado, is the one to beat. And other than a featured slot on a Q-tip strack and an arrest for soliciting a prostitute, we haven’t heard much.
