Bobby Womack To Release New Album

IIf all you know about Bobby Womack, is the Stones first hit, a cover of his "It's All Over Now", or, heaven forbid,  Gorillaz "Stylo" you don't know Bobby Womack. One of the great soul man, early in his career he played guitar in Sam Cooke (yeah, you read that right), his career has spanned 40 years of hit singles.

But except for his Gorillaz collaboration we haven't heard nearly enough of the man so XL Records Richard Russell's annoucement that he is co-producing Bobby Womack's latest album with Damon Albarn is both tidings of great joy, because we are getting new Womack material, and whatever because, perhaps we can get an Al Green to do the honors?

This is what Russell told Billboard: "Because Bobby guested on the Gorillaz record and him and Damon toured a lot together they had the idea of doing something new. Me and Damon worked together on the DRC album, so it kind of naturally came together to do something with Bobby…I think it sounds like a very modern soul record, really. His voice is amazing and I think if people have been listening to things like Frank Ocean and the Weeknd I think those artists are very influenced by Bobby and you can join a lot of the dots."
