The Double Dip!
A way to see them both has to be found. There is need to see and hear everything. Do you feel it? It overwhelms me and wears me out

I moved to Westchester County in 2004 and was shocked to discover that New York City was even more of a radio wasteland. How could it be that the two greatest cities in the United States fail to have radio stations of the same caliber as say, San Francisco or Seattle.
Frank Turner is a nice enough guy who sings lots of shit and milks his Britishness. The poser kids of today who refer to everything as ‘punk rock’, wow my hat is so ‘punk rock’, I’m too ‘punk rock to wash dishes..) have embraced this guy as their own personal Jesus
Many places I have lived are not exactly live music meccas (ladies and gentlemen, I give you MANHATTAN, KANSAS) and I’d rather not skip meals to attend arena shows
It’s an unnervingly simple, aggressive, it’s his leanest and most direct effort
This is the faves, 56 years in the making, my fave live shows of all time, in chronological order
Paris Hilton reportedly ‘threw a fit and rand to her bedroom slamming the door’ upon being told she could not attend last Thursdays Marilyn Manson, Alice Cooper show. Just like hundreds of other teenagers who don’t get their way.
Maybe punk rock now only means being non traditional and underground with venues and recordings? Maybe anarcho just means saying you don’t like stuff. Could be, times change.
Talk about streamline. Each song would be better than the one before it for the entire length of the album. Yes, you would lose the Imperial Bedroom sense of a major statement but you would gain one of the greatest albums of all tim
Wills incorporated blues, country, big band, tin pan alley, and folk music into his unique brand of exhilarating Western swing.
His self love is contagious, this is how he pays the bills. Iggy and The Stooges are back in a second revival and they’re old and tired and cliche’ and what bothers me most is he now is quite arrogant about the one thing that got him fame to begin with, Punk Rock.
2010 had two of them: Titus Andronicus’ The Monitor and Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. 2011 just the Tyler The Creator debut album, Goblin. 2012 had none. And now it seems like there could be three “A+” albums in 2013.

Here we go again, through the past darkly with a look back at four years of Mays and starting with one of the loveliest singers rock nyc ever ever covered. This is another case where I could’ve sworn she would’ve broken through but it is such a crap shoot. She had the songs, the looks, the smarts but four years later…

I am not a huge National fan, if I were I would have bought it on Tuesday when it was released, the same way I did with Vampire Weekend. Tuesday is new music day and there is so much on Spotify I won’t usually buy much off Itunes
This of course got me thinking about pizza…..and music. Imagine if you will scented CD’s. Now granted we also don’t use CD”s anymore but with the resurgence of vinyl who knows- CD’s can make a comeback and when they do- they should be smell infused!
From Johnny Taylor to Chic, all these beats are used over and over again like DNA building blocks. When you hear “Love To Love You baby”, if you can get past the wall of synths and the humming metal sensuality, you left with a bass throb and a drum pattern and it is that which is lifted and reused
Apparently these guys were on a different time zone and every act was behind an hour. Sad news for labels like Fearless Records who tweet Mayday Parade (aka ‘Breadsticks’) is on at 7:15 and they come on after 8. Seriously, how amateur can you be? I have been to so many festivals and theyre precision timing.
he band has effectively done a certain number of cover songs, and this is not an easy art. If everybody can learn somebody else’s song, not everyone can appropriate it, transform it without torture it, and QOSTA does exactly this: they manage to make the songs their owns by injecting in them their unique sound, while always remaining loyal to the originals.
I think it hasn’t mattered less since the birth of jazz in the 1910s. The roaring ‘20s through the 1950s jazz was integrally the sound of the States and the sound of America, eaten up by rock and roll in the late 50s and rolled over by MTV.
Of course, anyone that listens to Det var så länge se’n is eternally altered. What does one do with all of that Scandinavian street cred?
While I didn’t like High Flying Bird all that much, many people did, and I did love Noel’s first three albums tons and to be honest I envy him the ability to do nothing
I am inked. Each tattoo has a story (not that I’m always willing to share) but I really love the art and the times they remind me of. I like the discomfort of a tattoo gun and the elation of it being over with
He is clearly gay! And he is an important part of the hip hop community, so isn’t it about time that gay rappers come out? This week NBA center Jason Collins was the first male US athlete to come out as gay, shouldn’t rappers do the same
“From the beginning writing was always very therapeutic. A place to plop down all the mixed and passionate emotions of youth and love, returned and otherwise.”
Her Dresden Doll tales of revenge and power, sex and taunt were brilliant and aside from her ode to her bush her new stuff has been very good. She is every college kid with a trust fund and shes not a kid and she doesn’t have a trust. She’s a facade, she’s a mess, she is Boston.
9-11’s greatest success was NOT killing 2000 people in the World Trade Center, it was the incredible inconvenience of fool security at airports throwing away people’s toothpaste.
This enormous paragraph (did he type this on wordpad?!) he rambles as if he’s been hitting the scotch. I suppose to a citizen of the UK it ‘hits home’ but to a fan in the US its the redundancy and proverbial ‘beating a dead horse’.
Lo-fi hi-fi, digitized art damage spoken word, all that neat stuff is doing fine except rents are so extortionate in the city they are either moving to Brooklyn (like the Knitting Factory) or closing down.
If you have are an opening band with one hit you must play the one hit. If you have three hits, play all three. People don’t really know who you are, it is up to you to sell the product and hard. If the audience recognizes a song, so much the better.
You read the most abhorrent and choking sentences in rap songs, why was this more offensive than anything else going on in this world? How is this worst than Eminem saying in ‘As The World Turns’: ‘All I wanted to do was rape the bitch and snatch her purse..’
His father had a cabin in Medford, where Vernon found refuge. It was there in that cabin he pondered “Bon Iver” and what that really meant, but not without some inspiration.
Musicians think and talk about music all day, so they have lots of practice discussing it. They hear lots of new stuff and find out about it before most people. They certainly know how the sausage is made. And guess what: a lot of them can write really well.
So now I am going to see both bands, and what this proves is a variant on Herman Edward’s, former NY Jets coach, “You play the game to see who wins”. You play the album to hear what’s good.
His brand new Duet album finds you with the Anka not of the early 1960s but the mid 1970s when he had convinced himself that he was a modern pop phenom and releasing overorchestrated slop for the people and not Bobby Soxer pop ballads for Sinatra’s audiences children.
‘I don’t have a problem with gay people. I got some gay homies. Yeah, for real. People who were gay used to get beat up. It was cool to beat up on gay people back then. But in the 90s and 2000s, gay is a way of life. Just regular people with jobs. Now they are accepted, not classified. They just went through the same things we went through as black.’
The difference is that DJSsand producers, even the biggest of em, even the David Guettas and Calvin Harris, lack definition wheras the professional wrestlers are ALL definition. Wrestlers can be viewed at a glance while after an astounding 90 minute set by New World Punx on Saturday I am not bigger a fan.
This is a form of infinite regression and an aphorism, people lose their faculties as they decay and degrade on the way to death. We are all the same. We are all turning and turning and getting worse and getting worse
Using his ‘celebrity’ in such a way has become tiresome. We know your ‘solar bi polar panic disorder’ we know you got done wrong as a dad in your fathers rights crusade and we know your ex wife wasn’t nice and we know you adore your daughter more than life itself.
It’s nearing the witching hour and a topless girl wearing a horses head, tights, men’s underwear and sneakers and drenched with beer is frugging near the stage to Shit Horse, while Odessa Records owner Paul Finn dances with wild abandon and Shit Horses’s lead singer Danny Mason is twirling center stage before settling back into a semi-improvissed rant about love and death “Twelve Horses”
We need to be that person whether they are heroes or villains, normal or abnormal. whatever we are is whatw e must be. And we can’t be that if we stifle thoughts we disagree with.
I doubt that Shocked is a savvy enough media presence to have purposely orchestrated the event. If one were in the diabolical public sentiment manipulation business, there are better end states than career suicide. It’s almost too easy to play armchair psychiatrist with Shocked.
The unanswered question is does streaming hurt the bottom line and I can’t see it does. I am not, but many people I speak to stream and buy if they like the music. And even if it does hurt the industry, content “wants to be free” and you will have a hard time getting a model that isn’t free.
Morrissey has canceled so many shows on this latest tour from ulcers to sick moms to pneumonia I am glad I was able to see him at all. I have been listening to him non stop since that first October show and I have not gotten sick of one tune yet. I believe that on average I am hearing ‘Shoplifters” at least three times a day
According to people who were at the show, she performed her first set without saying anything, but definitively had an agenda during her second set: She wanted to clearly deliver her message… and there is no way she will get another gig in San Francisco any time soon
Winner – Billie Joe Armstrong – After derailing his career with a killer alcohol addiction and interrupting a tour to support three (count em) albums last year, Billie Joe and Green Day are back with a a great live show and a new temperate viewpoint. Tough to admit you have a problem and tougher still to fix it, his Rolling Stone interview was on this side of harrowing and the news he is sober is a good one for fans like me!
Asked who she would like to play her husband, Linda Ramone added: “Of course everybody would want Johnny Depp to play him, because he’s cool and looks good
If I was Taylor the first thing I’d do is fire Paula Erickson for this terrible terrible excuse for spin. What was needed was an immediate and loud statement from Taylor
Sure, it’s a little on the random side, but what with SJo forming a GoGo’s like rock band and with news, gossip, music and shows being at a minimum, well, here you go folks: actors who decided all you need is a microphone and a a huge “Q Score” and you too can be a great musician.
Clearly something is up with the teen. He’s just a method of propaganda and a marketing tool, and he’s letting that get to him. Hopefully, if he is on drugs, he gets help. Justin Bieber should get a grip and take a break.
Joni once claimed she found it very rude to call somebody a “new” anything while the old one was still alive. Fair enough. But since 2011’s A Creature I Don’t Know, Laura has been following a path reminiscent.
