In one of those odd coincidences, a couple of days after the documentary "Good thousands upon' Freda" about the Beatles secretary who took such good care of their fans, comes the other side of the story. On one hand, one woman handling thousands upon thousands of personal pieces of mail for the Beatles and making sure they are answered. On the other the Taylor Swift handlers who were caught throwing away hundreds of unopened fan mail to the Pop Superstar.
According to Wenn.com: "The letters came from all over the world, from devotees who had decorated envelopes with glitter and stickers. Swift's publicist Paula Erickson was contacted by the WKRN-TV reporter and stated, "Taylor gets thousands of fan letters everyday and they are delivered to her management office. After the letters are opened and read, they are recycled. "The only explanation for any letters being unopened would be that a small batch of mail that was supposed to be delivered to Taylor was accidentally put with letters headed for the recycling centre."
If I was Taylor the first thing I'd do is fire Paula Erickson for this terrible terrible excuse for spin. What was needed was an immediate and loud statement from Taylor and it should have read.
"I get thousands and thousands and thousands of pieces of mail, and if I read every piece myself I would have no time to do anything else, including record and tour. So I have friends and employees who read and respond to all of it and forward letters where I might be able to help out, or of special interest to me. It is completely unacceptable for mail to be discarded unanswered and I am very very upset. I promise to get to the bottom of it and I apologize with all my heart to my wonderful fans who took the time to write to me and to be so rudely ignored."
I mean really, Taylor. Is it that hard?
