Blank Space – Taylor Swift – Her greatest pure pop moment and while I personally have no problem assessing it as also a Max Martin greatest hit, in the end it doesn’t need his whoops and cranes, though you might considered it the difference between 2.5M units moved and 5M units moved – A+

‘‘I’d be biased to think that the community of Geminis is the most consistently in tune with what their spirit is telling them to do or why they have breath in their lungs. But I do think that creative Geminis—Tupac, Biggie, Prince, Miles Davis, all being Geminis—have, throughout history, been really in tune with those things.’

When God Talks To Katy

‘I was praying and I got a word from God and he says, ‘You got this and I got you,’’ she declared to Ryan Seacrest on the Red Carpet before the Grammy Awards. ‘And then I was on top of the lion and a random guy looked at me with a headset that I’d never communicated with before, he looked me straight in the eyes and said ‘You got this.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, that’s God confirming I can do this!’’

Katy Perry At Madison Square Garden, Wednesday, July 9th, 2014, Reviewed

Katy and uber-producer Dr. Luke simply ruled and three years later the Katy Perry reign continued. And while sure, it wasn’t much, a mix of fair pop hits and iffy dance slams while Katy moved away from her Dorothy in Candyland 2011 persona to still embrace her inner 13 year old but through the eyes of a blasé 29 year old writing a self-help manual, it pleased those it was meant to please

Tim Howard is 35 years old and sports, soccer, is more or less a young man’s game, but the Manchester United goalie from New Jersey who carried the USA team past the UK for one and Italy for another, may prove capable of doing what Pele couldn’t 40 years ago, with that in mind, US ball clubs should through mountains of money at the man so he can singlehandedly turn the US onto, dare I call it, football.

One of Costello’s lowest moments, was his destructive comments about the former Transvision Vamp’s lead singer. She asked him to write a song for her and instead, with his wife, he wrote an album. Wendy gave pretty steady readings of them. Elvis hated them and recorded them himself, not half as well. Here is the best of them, a class structured Lady Chatterley’s lover of a song – A-

Looks like the summer of the Ig to me and franly I am surprised that she is doing this well, though not shocked. Both “Fancy” and “Problems” are as good as modern dance mash Hip Hop gets and look as though they are settling in for a long stay at the top. As long as “Blurred Lines”? Maybe not though…

Not one new entry in the top ten and the top seven are THE SAME AS LAST WEEK and except for Lil Jon and Onerepublica trading places, this is the exact same as last week!!!! BUT coming up soon, as I predicted the minute it was released, Ed Sheeran’s “Sing” will be rocking the charts all summer. Be afraid.

Yeeeeesssss! Lil Jon is back on the charts to tell the truth to power on this real old fashioned slice of EDM heaven. This is House as written with a catchy catchy hook and flying synth lines into the outer stratosphere. Lil Jon said this about the song to Spin: ” It’s amazing, because that’s what I’ve been doing all my career: just getting people amped up and hyped up.” And remember he al… oh wait I already used that line.

John Legend performs the terrible drag of an “All Of Me” on the Grammy’s once and the next thing you know he has a top ten hits. Legend is Alicia Keys in male drag and he is just as boring a performer though not without a certain amount of charm, true. None of that charm is at work here. None of it.

It is one of the wonderful things about the record biz. Dan Smith was a bartender writing songs on his laptop two years ago, and one, based upon the infamous city, went onto his first album. Today his life is changed forever, he is a sensation, and whether I (or you) can stand the song is irrelevant, the man hit the jukebox jackbox. PS we don’t like the song at all.

Is The Song Dead As The Currency Of Modern Pop?

At the heart of so many 2013 big albums, is the lack of song, from Prism to Artpop, from New to Hesitation marks, from …Like Clockwork to Britney Jean, the lack of songs kills the albums in their tracks. They don’t get heard often enough and when and if you do give them the time they need to hit your pleasure button they don’t.

Prism is a sad and sorry album and going gold in six weeks won’t do it (it took Eminem two weeks to go platinum). Katy Perry has a problem and where goes Perry goes Miley. Look at it this way: Eminem sold more in a week than Miley and Katy sold in a combined 14 weeks.

Eminem has sold as many copiess, nearly a million, as #2 – #32 combined. Eminem is a big star and the album is a serious continuation of Part One, but even so the explanation here is that sales fall off so precipitiously that once you’re past the Top 20 at best, they are essentually meaningless.
