Miley Cyrus And Katy Perry Go Gold

Add their sales together and you get one week of Eminem

Bangerz was released October 4th and Prism was released October 18th, and they both just went Gold which would make Katy’s something of a disaster if she can’t find anymore hits on the album, but Miley is merely a disappointment.

Cyrus has one great career changing song on Bangerz and one pretty good song and 40 minutes of poo but if she had downgraded her tour from Arenas to Theaters she’d have sold out sign posts from one end of the US to another. Instead, she over reached and just didn’t have the fanbase to sell 20K seats per major city and looked like a loser. On top of that, she oversold the album and when it didn’t live up to the pre PR onslaught it looked like a loser when it was actually quite alright.

But Miley is not Katy Perry and neither album is the Billboard Top 10 right now. Perry’s Prism was a po-face disaster, recovering from a failed marriage she tried to meld girl power to life as a multi millionaire divorcee and failed. It is hard to imagine a greater distance between “Last Friday Night” and “By The Grace Of Gold”. It is hard to believe anybody thought they would find the same audience.

Prism is a sad and sorry album and going gold in six weeks won’t do it (it took Eminem two weeks to go platinum). Katy Perry has a problem and where goes Perry goes Miley. Look at it this way: Eminem sold more in a week than Miley and Katy sold in a combined 14 weeks.

Meanwhile, Gaga is hovering in the 350K range.
