Someone has proposed to consult an astrologer to talk about Elliott Smith’s death… I am pondering for 2 seconds… not longer since I don’t believe at all in these sort of pseudo-science stuff, actually I would not even use the word science to discuss astrology, it is just crap to my eyes. That said a lot of people believe in astrology, I meet some every day, I am not sure how deep their believes are, it may just be entertainment for them, but I guess some of them take it very seriously.
I was just curious to know how many musicians take astrology seriously, I bet quite a few because musicians believe all kinds of crazy stuff, from scientology to alien communication, but I should stop there because I am starting to be very politically incorrect!
‘I believe in astrology as much as I do in genetics,’ said Quincy Jones, and this is disturbing in itself, the famous music producer always sounds very smart to me, and as a proof, he believes in genetics – although the term believes greatly bothers me here – but he also believes in astrology? How can it be?
Billy Corgan is another astrology-believer as this Pitchfork interview demonstrates it:’ That’s why 14 and 15 are such terrible times. Saturn Return is just the return of your planets to their original position […] Yeah, midlife crisis. I’m happy to have gone through that, but it was really terrible. In my Saturn Return period, my mom died and I got a divorce.’ Saturn return? Billy and Saturn, in just a few sentences he has figured out what’s terrible with life… What a joke!
When I was on the subject, I found out that Courtney Love is not a believer, at the question ‘do you believe astrology has any play into who we love?’, she answered, ‘Absolutely not. Astrology is the biggest load of nonsense there is. Firstly you’re depending on celestial noir Vedic astrology; that means when thousands of years ago astrology moved west, we lost a sign, meaning you’re not a Taurus you’re an Aries and really your gonna let 12 planets dictate your life? It’s so bogus, I don’t even hear it when someone tells me their sign. It’s total pop psych for the bourgeoisie. Just leave it, I know it can be comforting but it’s seriously nonsense.’
Wow, I can’t believe she said something which makes sense for once, she must have cleaned up that day? She may be a psycho but she is smart, well of course the two aren’t incompatible.
Katy Perry is a big believer, ‘I see everything through a spiritual lens. I believe in a lot of astrology. I believe in aliens,’ she said in an interview for GQ. What did I say? Next time, she will probably say she has been abducted.
Pharrell also seems to be into astrology as this interview reveals it: ‘I was having a conversation with Justin Bieber about zodiac signs, and he was like, “I don’t get it. I don’t get why just because I’m a Pisces it means that all Pisces think like me?” And I said, “The zodiac signs only tell you what your tendencies may be, but if you look, most of them are there.” He was like, “So this person is a Gemini, and they complain about getting up in the morning, too.” And I was like, “It’s a little more subtle than that.’ Ha the intellectual conversation these two must have!
But I kept the best for the end, Kanye West was interviewed by director Steve McQueen last year and they talked about astrology, I mean Kanye brought up in the conversation the fact that he is a Gemini?
‘I’d be biased to think that the community of Geminis is the most consistently in tune with what their spirit is telling them to do or why they have breath in their lungs. But I do think that creative Geminis—Tupac, Biggie, Prince, Miles Davis, all being Geminis—have, throughout history, been really in tune with those things. You know, some different friends of mine have been showing me these interviews that Tupac did and how they’re very simple and to the point. I watched them, and one of the things that Tupac kept saying is that he wanted thugs to be recognized. That explains a lot! Seriously, this is worrisome, according to this article, an increasing number of people think astrology is science and in this current celebrity culture, the fact that so many of them believe in astrology is not helping. I know there are worst things to believe in but these other things generally come hand to hand with astrology… I am really not surprised these people buy astrology, it is just another way to express their egocentric view of the universe.
