Spirit in the Room are at Bar Sinister on Saturday

‘Don’t ever call me a Becky’
I’d go with Iggy.
We had something to do with it, a lot of vibe, a lot of push … We put trust funds up for that song.’… may be he was a bit modest, and may be he totally wrote the song? I can’t imagine writing half a song, but he even added that Charli XCX wrote the tune’s hook, ‘so a shout-out to her. She’s amazing.’
currently see a trend, people imagine their pop stars like flawless goddesses and at the least imperfection revealed there is an internet drama,… and in both cases it was not a reaction from the stars but a reaction from the fans themselves!
Billboard are thrilled that this is the first time the top five singles have been held by five women for five consecutive weeks. But surely the statistic means nothing unless compared to the last time five men have held the top five singles places for five consecutive weeks? So why isn’t it being done? Any guesses? This is a form of sexism you know!
The performance was good and occasionally very good , her rap on “Beat Down”, though early, reminded you she was in it for the music, and the full on ballad “Rolex” was absolutely a lesson on how her future will play out.
‘A&R is a work in progress’, added Blake, clarifying that the winning anthem’s artist will not necessarily be signed to the label, ‘Right now it’s all about forming relationships and understanding how this all works. We’re focused on distributing through the platform and digital sales’
the exciting young Australian rapper who ruled the summer with two smash songs, “Fancy” and “Problems” and then “Black Widow” bringing up the rear. Meanwhile her debut album The New Classic might not be the revelation her debut EP, 2011’s excellent Ignorant Art, hey she will be playing songs from both on Friday.
Her performance at Made in America let me totally uninterested though, she did everything you can expect from a rapper in this surrounding, she almost kissed Rita Ora on stage – but hasn’t this be done a million times before?
Now this is more like it. The story here is both Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea being represented by three songs each -yes, they overlap but so what, right? And none of them are dogs, really they’re not. I saw Ariana on stage last year and she was dreadful but with a hit album, who knows,, right? Next week: Taylor Time
If you’ve never seen Iggy this isn’t a bad place to start. I saw fun. at T5 a couple of years ago as they just broke pop and man was the buzz around the show intoxicating. After awhile, a band gets used to the big bang of people knowing all the words to all your songs and ceases to be this amazing moment in time
I’ve been kinda impressed by the Top Ten Singles in the US, nothing here is an insult to my ears, and significantly, most of it is top drawed modern pop music; there is so much to admire here. Plus, Ariana, Charli XCX and Iggy all are stars shining bright right now, and they all have hits and they all overlap!
You know how it works, only people who disagree protest, but if Facebook comments can be any indication of the success of a festival, well, this Made in America thing is not going to please many.
Kanye (who is already playing at the east coast version in Philly) will play on Sunday and Iggy on Saturday, but she is not headlining, you are still stuck with the always generic Imagine Dragons for that. Will this addition make me spend $200 and go to the two-day festival?
Please allow me to be the last to congratulate magic! on their hit single, I hope they make lots of money and invest it wisely. This is their moment, the magic! for magic! is in the air and why not? But if you’ve heard the album, the chance of a follow up hit seems a little on the doubtful side and so they will descend like Foster The People into sophomore album hell. Till then, make the most of it boys.
Na Na – Trey Songz – Very catchy sex song by a guy I once saw open for Mariah Marey, he sucked but man, the women in the audience could care. This is better than usual, a tricked out beat and a cute metaphor – B
Wow, except for “Rude” and “Problem” flipping places it is as though last week never happened. So it is s till a pretty good list and I still wish Legend wasn’t on it but at least it won’t be the song of the summer. PS: I don’t think an awful lot of that Iggy’s album. Except for “Work” of course.
Except for the Legend song, this is a plenty good top ten. Both Iggy songs work for me and “Summer” is an excellent song of summer. Nothing else seriously annoys me and if this is what the top ten looks like in 2014, count me in.
Yeah, yeah the stroppy Aussie kid is full of herself and I don’t doubt she has the song of the summer here, and I don’t doubt it won’t be Sam Smith because Smith is too downbeat, but I am real happy he has hit the top 10 because when you’ve spent as many posts trumpeting Smith as the next big UK soul sensation I’d feel like a total twit if he wasn’t.
The little tiny feminist inside me appreciates her as a woman. She is confident, she is strange looking, she doesn’t always wear makeup at big events where she’s walking on a red carpet and being photographed. She’s completely unafraid and stands up for herself.
annnnnnndddddd…. they’re off. Looks like another summer of chicks: Iggy, Ariana and Charlie XCX leading the charge for the song of the summer. I thought Calvin had a chance but on second thought “Summer” isn’t quite sleek enough.
At the top, that Mariah Carey Stevie wonder cop is brilliant and I hope it breaks the way “#beautiful” failed to, and what has already broken pop is two huge songs with Iggy Azalea. Both “Problems” and “Fancy” are summer hits for sure. Anything else? Chloe Howl EP is out but probably won’t make a dent till next month.
After seven years in the wilderness, the not best song on Paramore does the trick and gets them back on the singles chart. A fun video helped no doubt. SOrt of pop punk meets pop dance and not a bad polace to put the band. The two Iggys are great… but you already knew that.
Sleep With A Stranger – Nikki Lane – She is no Lydia Loveless though she comes from a similar world, her twang signifies a middlebrow intelligence rather then a high brow indie wiseassness. Dan Auerbach doesn’t help but doesn’t harm – B
A slow week at the top, right? Usually there are a couple I have to research but this have been around since last week My main complaint is “Summer” isn’t at # 1… Cmon guys, really!!
Stenography, that is to say, the passing on of favorable publicity and hagiography, is the major business practice of the mainstream media. Having the temerity of daring opinion in relationship to power, or money or whatever the majority feels is great consumer stuff, went badly out of fashion in the last few decades
Fancy – Iggy Azalea – Addictive edm rap mash up with a strong rap and the always charming Charli XCX, when you’re hot your hot – A-
While simply because of his work at last years “Sinatra In The Park”, Legend has a lot of brownie points in my world, as a songwriter he puts me to sleep. But here, he has a 0.09% beat on Pharrell. I don’t seem I am exaggerating when I call John’s Love In The Future rancid.
“Only five albums have racked exactly 13 weeks at No. 1. In addition to “Frozen,” they are: the original Broadway cast recording of “Hair” (in 1969), the Monkees’ self-titled debut (1966), Judy Garland’s “Judy at Carnegie Hall” (1961) and Enoch Light/Terry Snyder and the All-Stars’ “Persuasive Percussion” (1960).”
“The media will beg for free tickets to your show just so they can write about how much they hate it. I wish you could all see it. The whole things actually pretty funny.” Er, free tickets? Wow, that’s a little harsh? Writers are professionals, they go to shows to review them, it isn’t entertainment. Tickets are the tools of their trade.
Again, not the worst singles chart I’ve ever seen. The Azalea song is a real keeper and one I’d have missed if it wasn’t on the charts, proof positive that our fate lies not in the charts but in ourselves. I bet you wish you’d thought it up. Me? I wish it meant something.
Wow, Eminem is in twice and they are both OK even if neither are the greatest of his career. Iggy can really rap, Wilkinson is OK drum and bass and Lawson are a boy band who dress like Mumford and son.
