Iggy Azalea Very Probably Didn’t Write ‘Fancy’? So What? They All Do it!

Iggy not so fancy after all

So is this a big deal if an artist of the moment says she writes her song when she has in fact a ghostwriter? I certainly think it is! Rapper Skeme dropped the bomb during a morning show on satellite radio station SiriusXM…he may have written Iggy Azalea’s famous hit ‘Fancy’! To be fair he was very reticent to talk about it, which may prove he was not lying, and even when asked about his definitive role in the process of this song’s creation, he just said , ‘We had something to do with it, a lot of vibe, a lot of push … We put trust funds up for that song.’… may be he was a bit modest, and may be he totally wrote the song? I can’t imagine writing half a song, but he even added that Charli XCX wrote the tune’s hook, ‘so a shout-out to her. She’s amazing.’

Okay so what does Iggy have to do with this song at the end? Not sure, but at least she is singing it and that’s may be it. But I wonder how often this happens, especially in the rap business. In this article of Vibe, 11 rappers have been accused of using ghostwriters, and of course my favorite crazy-head, Kanye West, is the first one on the list! ‘It’s become common knowledge that Kanye had a committee of writers for Yeezus’ says the article. And in this MTV interview, rapper Consequence has confirmed he was one of them … true or not, it is a rumor very strong to kill, all rap blogs report that Kanye had ghostwriters for his first four albums! Should I add that this is real artistry!

But Kanye is in good company, apparently an army wrote for Dr. Dre during ‘The Chronic’ days, and Ghostface Killah, Nas, Lil Wayne, Diddy (and basically every rapper you may know) are rumored to have had ghostwriters… it’s highly probable that your favorite rap songs wasn’t written by the person you thought… so no shame for Iggy Azalea, it is just common practice in this business and that makes me even more foreign to rap,… what is this about at the end, selling fake authenticity?
