Will porn save the music industry? Pornhub, a site about pornography – and excuse me for not being an expert but Pornhub self-proclaimed itself as the ‘world’s number one free porn site’ – has started a new adventure: it has set up its own record label, seeking musical acts ‘aimed at an adult audience’…. What do they mean? A lot of sex-oriented lyrics?
‘We’ve always seen a strong music presence from the beginning of Pornhub’, said company head of PR and marketing Matt Blake, ‘Artists upload their own stuff, like uncensored tracks and R-rated versions of songs. Some people come in and upload exclusive videos, so it creates a buzz for them.’
According to Billboard, Xiu Xiu did premiere a new video, entitled ‘Black Dick’ (no explanation necessary) on the site, as well as electronic producer Falty DL The site is actually looking for an anthem and they are in discussions with some high profile artists to help pick a winner… Plus there is a $5,000 reward for ‘a music video to be featured on Pornhub.tv, with a minimum of 500,000 views guaranteed’…
Sure Porn sites are obviously very popular, … more than popular (40 million views a day!!!), so it is a dream-situation for musicians, wouldn’t you want your video be seen this many times?
‘We’re looking for acts that aren’t necessarily porn-focused’ said vice-president Price. ‘We’re an ad-based network looking for content that appeals to our demographic. Mature lyrics for an adult audience; no boy bands or teen-pop, for instance.’… ‘There’s erotic folk, rap, country — everybody has come to us,’ he added talking about the submissions that the site has already received.
Erotic rap? Isn’t 90% of the rap sex-oriented (if not porn-oriented) anyway? But nobody should be shocked of this news because, let’s be honest, porn is already served on a daily basis in these videos, and it has become more and more difficult to differentiate a music clip from soft porn. I guess Pornhub could have the exclusivity of all the videos by Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, even Beyonce, and so many others! All the videos could go to the porn site — and do not forget to add this new Jennifer Lopez-Iggy Azalea video, actually, this is so bad, they should win the contest! This way, we would clean up the internet from cheap porn!
‘A&R is a work in progress’, added Blake, clarifying that the winning anthem’s artist will not necessarily be signed to the label, ‘Right now it’s all about forming relationships and understanding how this all works. We’re focused on distributing through the platform and digital sales’
There is a guaranty of a minimum of 500,000 views when the video appears on the website, but hurry up, the song search contest ends on November 30th.
