"Room 237" Reviewed (More Or Less)

If you are destroying a native American burial to build a hotel, you can bet the ghosts are gonna be mad. And if you are making a movie about familial genocide over and over again, and you find many references about mass genocide, the chances are excellent Kubrick meant to put it there.

Taxing The Dance: Clubbers Pay to Play

Up for potential repeal is an odd tax in Washington State. The Dance Tax imposes a tax on taverns and clubs that include cover charges and offer guests “an opportunity to dance.” It also states that tax must be collected by businesses that charge admission and play music. Considering all the fee’s imposed on tickets of any sort this is no big surprise

Fall Out Boy's "Young Volcanoes" Reviewed

It’s definitely a new sound, and has a more well-rounded feel than “Phoenix” and “Light Em Up”. I take back what I said about “Phoenix”- because this will be THE song of summer 2013. It has a hint of pop pizazz but is most certainly “indie” enough for the other fans. It just makes you feel happy, which is really nice

Snoop Lion Doesn't Know If Homosexuality will Ever Be Accepted In Rap

‘I don’t have a problem with gay people. I got some gay homies. Yeah, for real. People who were gay used to get beat up. It was cool to beat up on gay people back then. But in the 90s and 2000s, gay is a way of life. Just regular people with jobs. Now they are accepted, not classified. They just went through the same things we went through as black.’

A Fundraiser In Connecticut For Mayla, Aaron Embry's Daughter

I remember seeing Aaron Embry at a 2002 Elliott Smith gig at the Echo, he played a few songs with him, but he even toured with him and recorded the song ‘Pretty (Ugly Before)’. Later in his career, he performed with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, but he played and recorded with many artists, like Daniel Lanois, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris. Last year, he released his own work a solo album entitled ‘Tiny Prayers’

UK Top 10 Albums, April 13th, 2013

Bring Me The Horizon’s newbie is so good, light years ahead of Imagine Dragons, a band whose success I find mind bending and strange. Wolf, an album that is growing off me, made into the top 10 so that’s good news.

Duke Dumont is a damn good producer and this is quite a dance mover. I see Buble made it on the charts, I was surprised it had no action in the US. The Nelly is pretty hot in here and otherwise bring on the usual suspects.

Leonard Cohen At Radio City Music Hall, Saturday, April 6th, 2013, Reviewed

Not every day you get to see a Zen Buddhist Monk enthrall a sold our Radio City Music Hall. Not every singer songwriter’s grandfather was the founding president of the Canadian Jewish Congress. And not every poet can write a lyric like “from the wars against disorder, from the sirens night and day, from the fires of the homeless, and the ashes of decay, democracy is coming to the USA”

Watch The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Movie-Like Video For 'Sacrilege'

the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ four-minute clip for their new song ‘Sacrilege’ is one of these mini-movies which almost distract us from the song itself. I guess bands are sometimes so focused at making the perfect video with a captivating story, that the song takes the second plan,… but isn’t the purpose of a video to promote the song and not vice-versa?

The surprise of the week is Alkaline, I was so impressed I stubhubbed a tix to their best Buy gig next month, the two here are the best on a real good album. The Chris Brown sticks out as another real good post-MJ dance track. nd the Virgins track? It happens sometimes that I get an album completely wrong and I feel as though I seriously underestimated the new Virgins.

Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of The White Stripes

This is a sure fire way to torture yourself and your child. I know we all miss the Stripes and well Jack is fine on his own but put him on a tin keyboard and the songs just lose their swagger. Singles Going Steady: New Album Reviews Week Of April 1st, 2013

After 17 years pounding out Goth punk anthem, Alkaline Trio have finally released the album of their career. Power punk swirls of smart lyrics, catchy hooks, clever melodies. Who are they? Green Day? “I Wanna Be Your Warhol” (“hanging on your wall-alll”) is a song of the year and so is “I Lied To The FBI” and if they can’t maintain this level of smarts, they don’t miss by much. Must See: Kris Kristofferson In June 2013

I saw Kris Kristofferson blow Geoge Jones off stage at Carnegie Hall in 2006 and I will stick on to that comment the caveat that Jones had ONE ARM IN A SLING. Winner And Loser Week Of March 1st, 2013:

What do all these bands have in common: Beyonce, Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode, Fall Out Boys, Phoenix, Atoms For Peace, Jay-Z, Barbara Streisand …? They all chose Barclay over Madison Square Garden in an act of unprecedented dissing to the world’s greatest arena. Barclay Center, less than a year old, are slam dunking one show after another and I don’t see why. I am guessing the reason is money but how much more are they paying? Either way, MSG must be right on their toes now.

Watch Huey Lewis Murder Weird Al Yankovic As If They Were Doing An American Psycho Remake

I don’t always find the Funny or Die videos extremely entertaining but this one certainly is. Picture this, Huey Lewis, from Huey Lewis and the News, and Weird Al Yankovic reacting the famous scene of the book and movie, when Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) murders Paul Allen (Jared Leto) with an ax in his immaculate apartment.
